As of February 2008, i've applied to over 50 jobs in the hopes of finding one before i graduated in May. As of now, i have gotten only 4 interviews (all of which i have blown) and several rejections. I feel so stupid for not having more work experience. I became too dependent on my stocks that were given to me by my grandparents, most of which were wasted during the 3 years i foolishly tried to succeed at UC Davis. In fact, the only good thing that came out of that experience is all the wonderful people i met and befriended...but academic-wise, enrollment was a recipe for disaster = P I should've been working all through college, but i was lazy and wasn't confident that i could handle both work and school. Now my resume is a piece of shit, with only one job at the UCD Coffee House on it. I basically screwed myself over. Now my stocks are running out and if i don't get a job soon, i'll be forced to move home. I love my mother and brothers to death, but the thought of moving back brings tears to my eyes (which is no surprise, i cry all the time hehe) and twists my stomach into a knot. Guess i wasn't expecting it to take a year to find a job, that was definitely a naive and costly mistake.
Among the dozens of jobs i've applied for, the one that i really wanted (Evidence Technician I in Stockton) is most likely no longer an option. I managed to somehow pass the written exam (even though i didn't know i was supposed to study anything and went into the test cold turkey) and rank #7 on the eligibility list. While i know i could've done better, i didn't do too terribly considering i saw at least 40 other people taking the test with me ^_~ Stockton County just sent me a notice saying that they were forced to impose a hiring freeze due to budget problems and other shit. FABULOUS. Figures =P If they don't lift the freeze in a set amount of time, i'll have to re-apply and go through the process all over again (and that's if the job becomes available again). ARRRRGH!
I just applied to positions at Petco, Build-a-Bear, Jo-Ann Fabrics, Cosco, Target and even Chuck-E-Cheese.
So glad i've found some use for my college degree...
