Q Colony by
Robert Thurston My rating:
4 of 5 stars What a beautifully bizarre and captivating little book this was! Read like a movie in my mind (but, better, because even though it's been 38 years since this book's release the Special FX would still ruin it. Some things are just better as books).
Thurston makes a lot of interesting points on many deeply important topics throughout the story (race, religion, consent, history/historians, gender norms and social mores, slavery, sex, war--it really had it all) and yet, it feels fun the whole time. Great writing.
I will definitely be looking for more of his stuff! Oh, and I think it may have a somewhat low rating here due to the strange alien sex stuff (which is barely a few pages in the whole thing) but to that I say...why are you even here? If you want sensual, ~human~ sex scenes then maybe mosey on along to the romance section.
Love the Oonas (feel badly calling them that, though). ;)
