I've been through a tropical storm and those are basically the equivalent of bad thunderstorms here, except with a lot more water. I learned from my time in Florida to watch the locals who've been around for years (and thus experienced more storms) - if they were calm, odds were good; if they were stocking up and/or splitting, though, then it was time to worry. Me, personally, I wouldn't stick around for anything rated Cat 2 or above. If the winds don't get you, the flooding almost certainly will (or what's IN those waters - I remember reading a horrid story once about a guy who survived a massive hurricane by Galveston, floating in the water - he saw a big piece of driftwood and swam over to it, only to find that it was covered with FIRE ANTS). It might be a less active season, but I've noticed - and I'm not the only one who has - that anymore we seem to get these big storm cells that spit out multiples, rather than just one smaller storm cell with maybe a possibility of one nasty surprise. We never used to get crap like this.
And keep us in your good thoughts - Wednesday they're saying there might be more shitty weather. *whimpers* :(
