Eating again! (Sam update, memes and more)

Dec 31, 2014 22:50

Sam is slowly appearing to recover...today he's eaten more than he's eaten in like a week. I'm so happy my baby is getting better! Granted, he eats small portions at a time, which is fine - don't want to overwhelm the stomach with too much too soon - but he is eating, which is a whole lot better than not. So the medicine appears to be doing well. Though he doesn't like it when Mom and I have to syringe-feed it to him...but as it's the only way I can get the stuff into him, well... At least he's a good sport about it. He hates it, but he tolerates it. Because my Sam is awesome. :)

New Year's Eve has been pretty good. Went out to dinner earlier tonight at a local restaurant with Brother & family and good food was had by all. LOL my nephew and I bonded over vomit stories. Yes, we are a weird bunch (and what else do you expect from a ten-year-old boy?). XD

Work was busy today - surprised at how many people we dealt with, but then it is NYE. One more day of regular cashiering (though not tomorrow, whee!) and then I get a week off (rest! yes!), and then I start my new position as (heh heh) meat minion.

Am now chilling out with a fresh bottle of my favorite wine and some snacks. Chatting with Ayinsan online now; later, I'll watch some Futurama. Sweeeeeeet.

It's been one hell of a year. Some good (new kittehs!); some not so good (November elections). 2015, you ARE going to be even better. Because I said so.

Ganked from
ayeamspartacus:

1. What did you do in 2014 that you had never done before? Worked/working at a Big Retail Empire that is the bane of many people's existence. ;)

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year? Didn't make any for this year (or any other, for that matter). I wouldn't call the ideals I have 'resolutions'...more like short- and long-term goals that are currently my primary areas of focus.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No.

4. Did anyone close to you die? NO, thank God!

5. What countries did you visit? None.

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014? More money.

7. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? There are a couple, for varying reasons: 2 days in January known as ChiBeria, because it was WAY TOO FUCKING COLD and part of the Winter That Would Not Die. June 30th, when SCOTUS screwed over every woman in America by letting crybaby hypocrite fundamentalist assholes dictate theocratic policy trumping health care concerns. The days that Sunshine, Taffy, Teddy and Chrissy cats showed up to be part of my life and make it even more awesome, because CATS. The days that my Sammy cat began a slow recovery from mystery illness.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Getting another job, I suppose. I'd thought that I'd been long since written off, even by retail standards.

9. What was your biggest failure? It's more like I have a series of little failures, most of which have to do with my fluctuating temperament and ability to manage details.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Illness: Standard annoying cold. Injury: Nothing serious, thankfully, though my back and shoulders have been clawed up quite a bit by my Sunny cat, who thinks I am a scratchpost/kitty furniture perch.

11. What was the best thing you bought? Trees for our tree-deficient yard.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Sam cat's, for showing some improvement with his health when I was so worried about him. (Not exactly something he can control, I know, but I'm thankful and happy all just the same.) Any person who made the effort to be a genuinely good and kind person to themselves and to others. If I owned a media company, I would focus exclusively on stories about people who did good things. We need more of that in the world.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Everyone in politics and the ever-expanding pool of useless celebrities, all of whom were/are whoring for attention. On a personal note, my brother's rabid racism, homophobia and general misogyny and religion-abusing delusions, all of which he feels quite free to express at any time in my presence, regardless of knowing how much I fucking hate that shit. (But I can't express my common sense decency in turn, because then I'm just one of those looney progressives and I'm totes persecuting others' beliefs. *eyeroll* )

14. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? Don't think so. My hate tends to stay pretty level, so if you were on my shit list five, ten years ago, odds are that you're probably still there. >;)

15. Where did most of your money go? Bills. Especially vet bills. Ah well, my kitties are worth it just to see them healthy and happy. :)

16. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Having new cats join my family. Hanging out with
ayinsan. Discovering how cool gardening can be. Cheering on the little and large victories various friends scored in their own lives. (Ayinsan and
incandescens, for example, are published authors! :D )

17. What song will always remind you of 2014? Anything from Weird Al's 'Mandatory Fun' album (alas, his last one - in the future, all his music releases will be singles or mini-album online-only. :( )

18. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? A little happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? Definitely fatter. Sedentary habit + overfondness for food in general + stress and emotional eating = gut ballooning.
iii. richer or poorer? Probably just breaking even: while I am employed, the money's getting sucked up by expenses (gas, groceries, the aforementioned vet bills to be paid off) Goal for 2015: try and save some!

19. What do you wish you'd done more of? Having fun. Working on finishing my WIP fanfics (though unfortunately, I'm starting to have a sneaking suspicion that they may never be completed - these days, my writing urges have become rather sparse. :( If anyone still reads my stuff, hang in there: I haven't completely given up yet.)

20. What do you wish you'd done less of? Worrying. I'm a born worrywart and I stress myself out needlessly. Unfortunately, in times of trouble my mind goes straight to the worst places, if only because past life experience has taught me to expect such. :/

21. How did you spend Christmas? Went to my aunt's house where we had a damn fine dinner. Alas, no Corn Boat of Death this year, though. (I have vowed that if I ever have a house of my own, and host a family holiday dinner, there will be a Corn Boat of Death. Oh yes. There will be.)

22. Did you fall in love in 2014? Do new pets count? You know what, yes, yes they do. Because I said so. ^_^

23. Did your heart break in 2014? No, though it threatened to when my Sam got sick and we couldn't figure out what was going on.

24. How many one-night stands? I have two nightstands, and they sit in front of my bed. One holds my TV and the other has my (fake) potted plant. /smartassery

25. What was your favourite TV program? Anime: Get Backers. Drama/Comedy/Mystery: Sherlock. Animation: Futurama, Archer and Bob's Burgers.

26. Where were you when 2014 began? At home. Probably playing either computer chess or scrolling the Internet.

27. Who were you with? My folks and Sam

28. Where will you be when 2014 ends? At home. Playing either computer chess or scrolling the Internet. XD (I don't like to be on the roads on NYE. The risk of drunk dumbasses also driving tends to increase substantially and thus, the odds of winding up in a bad accident with one. Folks, take it from someone who has seen firsthand the results of drinking and driving when some former neighbors were nearly creamed by a drunk driver: DON'T DO IT!)

29. Who will you be with when 2015 starts? My folks and Sam

30. What was the best book you read? My friend Ayinsan's Mindwalker. (Yes, I'm biased, but seriously, it IS a good book. BUY IT when it comes out. BECAUSE I SAID SO.)

31. What was your greatest musical discovery? Not sure, though I did listen to a lot of Maroon 5 and Weird Al this year.

32. What did you want and get? More money (sort of - does job count?). More out-of-home interaction.

33. What did you want and not get? See above. There is a reason why they say 'be careful what you wish for.' XD (Even so, I can't complain much.)

34. What was your favorite film of this year? Toss-up amongst Frozen, Maleficent, How To Train Your Dragon 2, Big Hero 6 and most likely The Battle of The Five Armies, when I get around to seeing that one. (Although I hear Smaug doesn't have much screen time, which annoys me - he's the main reason I'm going to see that movie because BADASS DRAGON! Hope Peter Jackson decides to do a spin-off where Smaug gets his own movie sometime before Thorin & Co. show up in the timeline, and eats people/dwarves like popcorn. I would totally pay to watch that.)

35. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? Don't remember, but it wasn't much. I am now spotting my 40s off in the not-too-distant future.

36. How many different states did you travel to in 2014? None.

37. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2014? Comfortable.

38. What kept you sane? My friends, my pets and my muses. Also plenty of wine. And pizza.

39. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch. Now THOSE are "Internet-breakers," honey!

40. Whom did you miss? My grandparents (mostly on my mom's side). My best friend Ayinsan, when she's not around. Myself, in a way (nostalgia of days long since passed).

41. How many concerts did you see in 2014? None.

42. Who were the best new people you met? Sherlock and John Watson. Oh, wait, you mean people in real life? >;)

43. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014: Standing up for yourself is crucial. Learn from your mistakes and figure out how to balance things for a workable life.

44. What are your plans for 2015? Try to save some money. Get my eating habits scaled to a healthier plan (i.e., less soda). Get my unfixed cats (currently Taffy, Teddy and Chrissy) spayed/neutered. Get my clutter under control (weed out material things I don't want/use/like; organize the stuff I am keeping) and possibly figure out some sort of longer-term plan for my life.

I wish you all a happy, healthy, prosperous and wonderful New Year 2015. :)
