So what have I been up to lately...
- It is confirmed that New Kitteh is MINE, all MINE! As such, I have named her Sunshine - Sunny for short - because she's so sweet; one day I remarked to my mom that she was "like a little bit of sunshine", which stuck. She LOVES LOVES LOVES to be petted and follows us all over the yard at all times. I've never seen a stray like her; most of them need a bit of time to warm up to you first. She popped up one day and has been with us 24/7 ever since. I like to think that whenever one of my kitties passes on, the predecessor sends a new furry friend to succeed his (or her) place. K.C. was a tabby, and so is Sunny. Coincidence? You be the judge.
Sunny has gone into heat, so we're taking her to get spayed tomorrow (the same place did Boo and K.C. for me; I wanted them because they did such a good job).
Meanwhile, Dad had a shit fit because Sam (eldest kitteh) freaked out tonight from seeing Sunny and Boo (who is surprisingly tolerant of Sunny, given her general dislike for other cats) so close to the window screen by the kitchen, and chose to express his displeasure by peeing on the (linoleum, thank God) floor right in front of him. Dad acted like Sam did it just to personally spite him. Explaining to him that cats only ever pee outside their boxes if they are sick - which Sam is not (though he does have another bout of shitty fleas, picked up no doubt from our interactions with Sunny - both Boo and Sam have been dosed with anti-flea stuff as of right now; Sunny will get dosed at the clinic) - or if they're stressed out by an outside factor - which in this case, is two other cats (particularly Boo) with whom Sam does not get along with - was of course an exercise in futility. *eyeroll* My dad is so rude and mean anymore...it's very irritating.
I wish I could afford my own place easily. I would gladly pack up all my stuff, my car, my cats (and if I could swing it, this computer, which sadly isn't technically mine) and go...if I could. :p
- Gardening. Lots of gardening. At some point there will be pictures (hopefully). We also got a new lawnmower which was sorely needed - we now have 6-foot weeds in the backyard because we went for so long without a working mower, and the rain/heat pretty much took it from there. :p
- Am getting new glasses! They look exactly like my current ones; just tweaked the prescription some. I almost went with a pair of purple frames before I decided that a) it might be purple overkill, being that my room and a good deal of my crap is purple, and b) there was something slightly off-kilter about the shape of the frames that I didn't like on my face. Ah well.
This is all possible due to my mom's finally getting her retirement fund (early!) for several years' worth of hell at her former workplace, The Pit of Suck. Sadly, it will probably all be drained eventually, because 1) we need certain things done to this (still-unfinished) house, such as: gutters installed, drainage ditch finished (the stupid county has been giving us crap about that lately - first the fucking thing isn't dug deep enough, now it's too deep, etc. - never mind that it does NOT fucking flood where we're at; all the water goes out to the fields!), water softener and iron filter installed... And 2) my dad's poor management of money in general.
But for now, at least, it feels like we're making some progress...
- Have been working with Dad on his business, the refurbishing of propane tanks at houses that have them. Tanks are worse than fire hydrants because 1) they're almost always out in the open, under the hot sun, and 2) they're much bigger so a) more work to do, and b) people apparently hate seeing those more than they do the hydrants so they feel compelled to plant all manner of crap all around them which unsurprisingly makes it a LOT harder to clean/paint the damn tank - and makes it virtually impossible that those plants/flowers are going to survive the encounter unscathed. (You have been warned.) I haven't been called upon for this work very many days, but it's something to do and brings me a little bit of extra money.
- Stomach thing appears to have more or less resolved itself satisfactorily; at least, I haven't had any more problems and my appetite is back to (mostly) normal, considering the current heatwave. I chalk this up to indigestion during one of the instances wherein Ayinsan and I got together and overindulged in tasties, as we usually do. Getting old(er) sucks - I can't seem to function in some capacities the way that I used to. :p Oh well. I'll just have to remember to pace myself accordingly from now on, I guess.
Such is my life at present.
