So guess what I've been up to today??
At last count (and probably still counting) there have been 17 confirmed tornado reports across Northern and Southern Illinois. SEVENTEEN. In one day. A shitload of those have been dangerously close to my area (and yes, including the aforementioned one which hit by Streator/Ottawa). I am officially done with rural living. I'm moving to a big city as soon as I get the chance. You almost never get that kind of shit in the cities. (Which is not to say it can't happen ever, but looking at all these pictures coming out of Pekin and Peoria area...yeah.) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY I WILL HAVE A PROPER BASEMENT.
I am particularly pleased with the weatherman (NBC 5's Brant Miller) for openly speaking truth to power and saying "I don't care what your views on [climate change] are, the fact is that something is happening to alter this climate and change the weather to this extent." I reiterate: FUCK YOU CLIMATE CHANGE DENIERS. For this insanity to happen in mid-November is almost unheard of; for it to produce this kind of severe outbreak is unprecedented.
We saw a LOT of wind (the wind out here is way worse than when it was while I was living in town) and rain; our garbage cans have been blown all over the fields and there is even a bag of trash (recycling) lying outside way in the east field. Storm-wise, it's calmed down, thankfully, but the wind is going fierce on the backside of that front and the temperature is dropping - 30+ degrees. Say hello to your tornadoes, with that kind of barometric bullshit. The sun peeks in and out, but right now it's mostly overcast. The wind is so strong it makes it sound like it's raining buckets out there. (We also got pea- to marble-sized hail.)
ETA: Tornadic storms are hitting Indiana and Paducah, Kentucky right now.
ETA2: One confirmed death, 80,000+ without power. (Twitter feed's going nuts)
ETA3: And some motherfucker is retweeting fake damage pics from the tornado in Manhattan, IL. Dude, you are so next on the weather hit list for that.
ETA 4: Reports are going up to 21 tornado sightings.

ETA 5: Confirmed death was from Washington, IL, in central Illinois which was particularly hard hit.
ETA 6: Reports are up to *37* tornadoes now! Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky are getting the crap kicked out of them right now by this system. IF YOU LIVE IN THESE STATES BE PREPARED TO TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY!!
ETA 7: A reported *ten* tornadoes hit Illinois thus far, including: Pekin, Peoria, Washington (some of the worst-hit), Frankfort, and Coal City. They had to evacuate Soldier Field when the storm hit Chicago; according to newest reports the Bears game is back on (which is just nuts IMO; why didn't they just reschedule the damn game in the first place!?)
ETA 8: (as of almost 5 pm here) Five fatalities now being confirmed from the same area as the Washington one.
