An Outsider Looking In

An outsider looking in
It's a feeling that's hard to lose
When the world is turning white
And we never get to choose.

It started with the "pitter-pat"
of the snow on her sill.
Curiosity won her over,
and she peeked against my will.

She saw the sun begin to set
way over in the distance.
The world had shone completely white.
She wouldn't want to miss this.

She grabbed her coat and boots
Quickly tossing them on.
But by the time she made it outside,
The sun was almost gone.

She ran across the snow so fast
Getting farther away from home.
She could no longer see the window
The ought which a calming light had shone.

She couldn't find my way back home.
She was so completely lost.
Stumbling the ought the black lit woods,
She soon began to frost.

The cold began to get to her.
She could not shout nor walk.
It got harder to breath the air,
But this was no great shock.

Her body soon turned numb.
Frostbite taking over.
She lost control of her entire self,
But her mind had stayed quite sober.

Finally falling on her side,
Each system shutting down,
She knew what would happen
As she lay upon the ground.

As she let her mind slip away,
Getting closer to a bitter sleep,
She knew full well that she'd never
Utter another sound or speak.

Her feet were the first to go
Moving them impossible.
Soon her legs had followed them.
Walking became improbable.

Her hands and arms the next to go,
Freezing themselves over.
That same frozen feeling
Creeping on her.

She couldn't feel anything anymore.
Her body had given up.
Her heart slowing like
Water from a cup.

A lonely girl
In a lonely forest
Lost to the cold
For the rest of eternity.
