Jin rubbed the tiredness from his eyes as he grabbed his PDA from his nightstand. "Who...?" He growled frustratedly as he checked the message left for him. His eyes slowly widened. "...shit." He snarled, and immediately leaped out of bed, darting for his closet.

---

To his credit, Jin got to the infirmary quite fast, for having just woken up. All but ramming his way through the door, he looked around for Lily.

Lily looked up at the noise, understandably surprised. "Jin-san?"

Upon seeing her, he calmed down a bit. Taking in a breath, he quickly stepped over to her bed, his eyes scanning her over, as if to try and find any obvious injury.

"Are you...alright?"

"I feel... fine." She smiled, but nervously. "Better than usual, actually." She looked down, chuckled nervously, and scratched her arm. "I think I might have even been bitten by something."

Jin looked relieved, but a little bit confused. "What...happened with the Shadow Charm?" He asked.

"I couldn't sleep, so I went to search for the charm. Sagami-san approached me, and immediately activated its... Breaker Zone." That's what Ren had said it was called, if she remembered correctly. "... I fell. He challenged me to a game... any game. I chose chess because I didn't think I could make it through a duel... and I lost. After it was done, he left.

... ... ...

Other than learning it could produce any game, I... didn't learn anything new. I... ... am sorry."

Jin looked down for a moment. He was angry, that much was obvious. Slowly, his hand came up and took hers, squeezing it. "That's alright." He said.

"Did the Charm...take anything?"

It look Lily a long time to figure out what she wanted to say. She squeezed his hand once to let him know she was still 'there,' and then again after she'd decided.

"Nothing that I desire to have returned to me." She looked down, putting her other hand over his. "You and I are... to the best of my knowledge... the same now. We are both... completely human."

Jin's eyes widened imperceptibly. He looked confused.

"What...do you mean?"

"I meant to tell you... but..." She laid her head back, closing her eyes. "This is so stupid... I thought you would be mad at me." Never mind the fact that he was also, of all things, from a line of demon hunters and she had thought something else, but, yes, that genuinely had been her main concern.

Aware that she'd dropped a veritable bombshell on the boy, she decided to keep her eyes closed. "I am... or was... a monster." She didn't bother to clarify 'half' just now. After all, Isamu had seen no difference... she wasn't sure if Jin would, either.

Jin blinked a couple times. "Monster...?" He repeated. "Do you mean that...thing that came out against Donovan?" He asked. He then shook his head, without waiting for a response. "That...I don't care about that." He said. "An Avatar Seal doesn't make you a monster, Lily."

Even as he spoke, he was positive that wasn't what she was referring to, but somehow, he felt he didn't want to know what the truth was. Some part of him hoped she'd pick up on that, wrong as he knew that was.

Granted, she no longer had the ability to 'feel' people out, but there was something about the situation that made her feel... strange. Unfortunately for Jin, however, once Lily had set her mind on seeing something through, she saw it through...

"I am not talking about an Avatar Seal. I am talking about being a living, breathing, energy stealing, scares children and small animals, life threatening...!" She pounded a fist onto the bed's thin mattress. "... monster."

... no matter what the outcome.

Jin looked a bit shocked after the outburst, and suddenly regretted his attempt at self-denial.

He swallowed. His hand slowly slipped off of hers and fell to his side.

"I...see."

She made no effort to grab it.

"I'm sorry." She bit her lip. "I just wanted to be happy for a little longer. I got greedy." Lily then shook her head and tucked her hair behind her ear. "I understand if you have to... do... whatever."

Jin wasn't sure how long he just stood there for. It was probably only a minute or two, but it felt longer.

He knew what he was supposed to do. He also knew what he wanted to do. Between the two of them, however, he couldn't force his body to do one.

"I...I need...air." He eventually sputtered out, turning on his heel and walking away. Twice, he stopped, as if thinking better of it, but he kept going, and was eventually out the door.

Lily sighed, and turned her head towards the window. Moments later, she began to cry softly into her pillow. 'I should have lied.'
