No matter what, at least they aren't out in 5, which means they at least surpassed that last two Colorado series. It's a nice reflection that everyone that was saying it was the exact same series over & over again (including me, in the despair of Game 4 aftermath) is wrong. Because this team IS different. Even if it ends on Saturday, with yet another home loss, there has been no shortage of effort. If you go out fighting to the bitter end, I'm going to spend a lot less time complaining about it. I said in the beginning of this thing, Vancouver is not a very good matchup for us. If we had gotten Nashville & been in the same situation, I would have been much more upset. But Vancouver has a tight defensive game & a great goalie matching up against a team that doesn't score very much under the best conditions. Anyway, tonight, I am simply happy there is still hockey yet to be played.
Marty is indefinitely better. This is the first time--even as recently as the regular season--I can say, late in a tight game, I didn't expect him to cough up the back-breaker. He has done everything we have ever wanted him to do. Give him all the credit in the world. I was fed up with him this year, maybe a little unfairly so, but I'm rounding back around. Two playoff shutouts tend to change a few opinions.
Brenden Morrow is a leader. He is the captain you want your team to have. He is accountable & better yet, he answers the call. How do you not respect someone like that?
Not only was the goal an OT goal (FINALLY), it was a power play goal (FINALLY).
Mike Ribeiro has found his way to the postseason. Welcome to the playoffs, Mickey Ribs. Boy, are we glad to see you.
Remarkably, Eric Lindros is suddenly healthy. WHA...? Never mind. Don't ask questions. At the very least, he makes for a bigger screen in front of Luongo than Miettinen could ever be. Plus, this note from the DMN blog...
Lindros was wearing a "Barnes 14" T-shirt underneath his gear this morning, the one that says, "We're not boo-ing, we're Stu-ing." When I asked Lindros where he got it, he said they had to special order it from the Stars pro shop, because they were sold out.
Well, that makes Lindros kinda awesome, cause I am DYING to own that shirt. And it's the second time it's been reported he's worn it. So jealous.
Speaking of Stuuuu... This isn't the first time I've said mid-game we should have his new contract drawn up & ready to sign during intermission. That dude...it is shocking he hasn't won a Cup yet.
Game 6--God, it is so good to be able to say that--is Saturday. And once again, I will just ask here for one win. For now.
