The Job Hunt Continues

Boy, when it rains, it POURS!

Last week, I got called in for one random interview and one interview that I'd been hoping to get since before Thanksgiving. Today, I got TWO random interview requests! There seems to be quite a bit of randomness.

Last week I had an interview with an extremely conservative women's organization (strangely enough my interview was conducted by two men). They were very nice but it's a receptionist position that I'd be stuck to for MINIMUM one year with little opportunity for independent projects (even in that position) within that year. Low $20s and in DC. Beautiful office though, but they're struggling to come out of a low financial point and I don't know how comfortable I feel about taking a job with them at this point. Plus, they're a wee bit TOO ideological for me. It was weird though, I sent them my resume in August and didn't expect to ever hear from them again.

Then I had an interview at a prominent trade association (related to everyone's favorite beverage). High $20s and FREE PARKING! Some travel (San Diego in October) and quite a few opportunities to show off. I accidentally met the president of the organization. LOVE him. What an amazingly energetic guy. Wow. The office is beautiful and awesome. The people seem totally wonderful. I found out about the job through a former Senate co-worker who left to go work for this trade assn. and is still there.

Now for the really random interviews. This morning an LD from junior senator's office called to set up an interview for an LC position. He got my info from the senate placement office.....THAT was a surprise, they NEVER hire out of the placement office. So I'm suspecting that either they've already got someone in mind and just need to be able to say that they've interviewed X number of people or the job bank woman that I met with from a prominent think tank contacted him and he's just saying that he picked me out of the senate placement office. Anyway, I probably won't get the job either way...my writing skills are really lacking. This interview is tomorrow morning! Fun, traveling down to the Hill....potentially all for naught.

The call for the second random interview came later this afternoon. I thought he was a telemarketer because the two word company name ends with "Marketing." Evidently this small-ish direct mail company got my resume from the Nat'l Republican Senatorial Committee. Let me take you back to that interview....it lasted 5 minutes and I asked about 5 questions to try to keep it going...with no luck. So evidently I made a good impression but they decided to hire someone else and this direct mail firm got my resume. Weird. I don't know if I like that. Anyway, they're in Falls Church (ick), but the pay is $30,000, possibility of a bonus, and guaranteed a year-long employment. They work for a lot of conservative organizations (including the RNC), which is cool, but we'll see. This interview is on Thursday afternoon.

I'm really gunning for the trade association job. REALLY. It's overall the best deal of any of the places I've interviewed so far. And my acquaintance that works there says that the women that interviewed me really liked me. I feel really good about the interview, the association, the people, everything. Cross your fingers and/or pray for me!!!
