Fan-Chrismas-Tastic!

The parents okayed having David over for dinner, now I have to approach having him over earlier for our traditional Christmas matinee. We're planning on seeing The Last Samurai.

I called David to invite him to dinner. Then I let him know that he and I would be making the dinner. He laughed, rightly so!

I finalized the menu to:

Entree:
Grilled Pepper Sirloin Steak with Green Onions
Sides:
Thyme Buttered Zucchini and Baby Carrots
Potato Latkes with Applesauce and Sour Cream
Plain Ole Salad with Honey Mustard or Raspberry Vinagrette Dressing
Desert:
Candy Cane Ice Cream

Whattaya think? commygirl reccomends that I get a red wine, so maybe I'll leave it up to David to get that. David seems to think that it's a lot of food. But its not like you have to eat it all. I guess I'm used to Japanese meals where there are TONS of different dishes and you eat a little bit of everything. That's kind of what I'm going for. I'm going to make the ice cream a day or two before, so I don't have to worry about that. Very exciting!

I need to go to Wal-Mart or Joann's to get fabric...I'm going to make placemats (and possibly a runner) as part of my mom's Christmas present. We have two or three placemats for any of the sets. How does one go about losing only one placemat????? VERY strange! I'm thinking of going with blue toile with solid blue on the bottom, so if it's a bit much you can just turn it over and have a plain placemat. I want to make napkins too, but I may just buy plain white and embroider a blue "S" at the corners. I think I'm taking on too much for this project. I'm scared.

By the way, I've done like NO shopping yet. Which is okay, because I'm making most of my presents, oh wait, that's NOT okay. But I did finish all my Christmas cards today, except for the ones that David has to sign too (to his mom/dad/stepmom/bestfriend). So I have a little bit of a sense of Christmas accompishment.
