*United Nations meetings were something the Republic of Texas both hated and enjoyed. He had to get dressed up, go to a boring meeting where no one really gave a damn about him because he was a small, power country of limited power. But then again, he got away from his wife and cities for a while. It was a trade off.*
*It wasn't something he had been thinking about when he seceded, or when he made the decision to leave New York. He wasn't thinking of the consequences then- Of being poor, having few people to trade with, a small (but well trained) army and, perhaps worst of all, his cities had all but turned away from him for ruining their prosperity.*
*As he went about looking for his seat, he couldn't help feeling like he was just there to fill up a space. He found his spot and quickly made his way over, wanting to avoid unnecessary conversation. He gave the person he was sitting next to a glance, expecting to see America there-*
*Texas hesitated, and had to bite his tongue when he saw it was New York. He felt such guilt and remorse grip his being he was tempted to leave then and there. But. he did have a job to do, even if it was to be a living paperweight.*
*Without a word, he sat down and settled in. He didn't even glance to the side again. He kept his gaze focused straight ahead.*
[New York had his back turned to Texas' seat when it had been empty, striking up a conversation with Canada, who was sitting right behind him. Apparently this meeting had called for those of the same continent to sit in the same section, though he hadn't realized - at the moment - who that meant he would sit by.]
[That was, until he turned and saw Texas - next to him - out of the corner of his eye.]
What-
[In an instant, a wave of anger and hurt washed over him. He hadn't really seen Texas too much since the other left him, and would have...liked keeping it that way. What was the possibility that he would sit right next to Texas, anyway?]
*Texas had been expecting a reaction like that, but it still managed to catch him off guard. His eyes moved, giving New York a quick glance. It only took that half second of seeing the other to make the republic feel the feelings of guilt intensify.*
*He chose to not answer. His expression went stony, his eyes looking straight ahead.*
[New York chose to interpret that as being ignored, not really surprised but still very angry about it. He growled, and whipped around to Canada again.]
Yo, Canada, switch seats with me.
[When the northern country declined - even after New York tried negotiating - the state spun back around in his seat and spared the other another glare. He even slouched, putting his arms on the best, folding them, and then putting his head down. His eyes scanned around the room for a moment and he grumbled a bit to himself.]
*That New York tried to get away from him didn't surprise Texas. He also wasn't surprised when it didn't work out; Why would it be so easy to avoid this?*
*While it was awkward and Texas couldn't say he was enjoying it in the least... Seeing New York again stirred up an odd mix of emotions. He hadn't in so long, and he did wonder about his...former lover. He couldn't stop himself from listening to him, and... Just casting of small glances, too look at him. He tried to be as discrete as he could, knowing where they were and his position.*
Can't believe this shit; this is why I fucking told them I hated coming here...could've easily just fucking sent someone else...
[Not aware that he was being listened to, he was just rambling to himself, forcing himself to not look over again, despite how much he wanted to. He too, thought about his ex a lot; too much - as he had been told by several people. He would try and claim he was over him, but no one who harbored as much anger as he did could be over something like that.]
*As much as Texas could understand his lover's feelings, what he was saying worried him. What if someone overheard...? While Texas wasn't doing well and he wasn't one to talk, America didn't seem to be doing incredibly well either.*
*It made him feel even more awkward. He finally had to shift a little, to get rid of his nervous energy. He had to resist saying something to quiet the other down; He knew it wouldn't work anyway.*
*Texas took a breath, and the looked over at New York. He wasn't expecting that much aggression. That wasn't to say he didn't deserve it, he just hadn't been expecting so much in public.*
I was shiftin'. Settle down.
*He was trying to end it quickly, but knew it was a pretty useless effort.*
*Texas snorted. Somehow, it didn't surprise him at all. He couldn't blame the other for it either; Texas himself knew what simply being walked out on felt like.*
*He didn't say anything further... Just looked ahead.*

Airin' dirty laundry in public'll just make you embarrass yourself.

I'm not starting anything. Besides, did you not hear me say that I wouldn't listen to you? In case you didn't, I'll say it again.
[He spoke slower, emphasizing every word.]
I am not going to listen to you.

*His eyes stayed forward. The meeting had to start soon. New York wouldn't carry on during it, would he?*
Got no idea why you even said anythin' to me in the first place then.

[He knew when it left his mouth that it was a childish thing to say, but he didn't care all that much.]
You were annoying me.

[And the snort annoyed him even more.]
I can see you're perfectly fine though.
[He was lying, partially; Texas didn't look okay - not as much as he used to, anyway - but he figured it was true for his mental state.]
