Internet in Spain

Here I am in Hinojosa del Duque- a tiny town in the province of Cordoba. (I'm teaching English at the secondary school here, if you're wondering, and I am on week 3 of living and working here) Internet is difficult to get, and I am a regular at the public library because of it.

My roommate and I have called a bunch of companies about getting internet service at our apartment, and they all say that they don't cover us (whether it's just our street or the whole town). Our landlord said the trick was to call Telefonica and ask to be put on the waiting list to get internet. She said her last tenant only had to wait about 15 days for them to come set up internet. But when a technician came by to set up our landline phone connection, he said something like it could take as much as 6 months for them to come to us. We're on the waiting list now, anyway.

So I'm really confused about that internet situation with Telefonica. Does anyone else have experience trying to get internet in a small Spanish town?

Second question... i've been looking into getting one of those USB modems from Vodafone or Yoigo (I have a Yoigo mobile phone, btw). Less than ideal, but that might be all I can do for internet in my home. Do any of you have experience with using those mobile phone brands' USB modems? Good? Bad? Contracts? Expensive fee for breaking contract? I know Vodafone has an 18-mo contract one, and charges 150 euro if you break it early. (I'm only going to be here 8 months.)

Thanks in advance.
