When to pick up visa

Aug 14, 2008 23:54

Hello everyone,

When I applied for my Spanish visa at the consulate in Boston back in July, the guy there told me to come back on August 21st (a week from today) to pick up my visa.

Here's the thing. This coming week I am starting full-time work for a temporary job that I do semi-annually. I'll only be doing it for about 3 weeks or so, and then a couple weeks after that I am flying off to Spain. Basically, since I haven't had many other opportunities to earn money this summer... it's more than annoying to know that I'd have to at least take off a whole day of work just to travel 4 hours to Boston (I live in Burlington, VT) and back again, as I easily would have had enough time to do so, say, this week, or in one of the weeks after my temporary job ends and before my departure to Spain.

So here is my question, for those of you who have experience with picking up visas at the consulate (esp. the Spanish consulate in Boston!). When they give you a specific date like that, does that mean that you HAVE to be there ON THAT DATE? Or, is that an approximation? Or, does that mean starting from that date, I may pick up my visa sometime after that? If so on that last one, how long will they wait for me to pick it up? I mean, does it expire or something if you delay picking it up, or will they not help you or something?

Thanks in advance!

Update 8/19:
I actually found the following on their website:

The foreign national must collect his or her visa within two months of being notified that it has been granted. In the case of a resident’s, work, or student’s visa, the holder must obtain a foreign national’s identity card within one month of his or her entry into Spain.
So it looks like I should be able to pick it up after my job is over!

Just an FYI for anyone wondering.
