-Relatedly: for a long fic like catching up, would you rather see it all on one page (which I think might be possible at that Archive), or broken up into chapters? I was going to just post it all in one, because I was so excited by that possibility, but then it occurred to me that this might be annoying for other people. Thoughts?
I think if it's on an AO3 format I like it being in one giant document, but for LJ, I like it broken into parts? idk. Weird little preference of mine.
AO3 does allow chaptered fics to be viewed and downloaded in one part. I just downloaded a few .epub files for my Sony Reader of chaptered fics and it's a whole fic in there.
Also, if you're bothered about people Not in Fandom reading the fics, from the FAQ: "You can choose to make your posted works public, or restrict them to logged-in users of the Archive. If you'd like to restrict your works, just tick the option 'Only show your work to registered users' on the 'Post / Edit Work' form."
If someone at this point has an AO3 account, they're either fic writers or serious fic readers, thus involved in fandom.
Yeah, I meant more like... if a fic is long, do people prefer reading it all on one page, or broken up into 'physical' chapters (i.e. separate pages on the site)? I know what I prefer, but I have no idea what other people like, especially since I've gotten so used to LJ and its post character limits.
I did see that option. So far they're unlocked, for the same set of reasons that has the vast majority of this journal unlocked. I guess I might change that if AO3 gets a load of sudden publicity or somesuch... I just always get wary about sports RPF spreading at all beyond fandom types who are used to that sort of thing anyways. It's so different from fiction-based fandoms, and even from other RPFs. Sadly.
considering the way the ebook files are paginated on my reader, I prefer chapters because they're easy to hop to and then I know exactly where to stop when I'm reading fic on the bus.
