in which americanleaguer turns red

I totally forgot to post about this! Go me.

constance_b recently contacted me asking if I would mind if she podficced (?) one of my SGA stories. To be totally honest, the whole podfic thing has completely passed me by, mostly because I am an extremely visual reader-- I can't listen to stuff and process it, it really has to go through my eyeballs for me to enjoy a story. I never used audiobooks and I don't use or seek out podfics, so it had honestly never occurred to me that my stuff could theoretically exist in that form.

Of course I told her to go right ahead, because hey, more forms of media means that more people can enjoy the fic if they want, which is what this stuff is all about in the first place anyways, right? When it was up she very nicely sent me a link and I went to have a listen.

So it turns out that I have a huge embarrassment squick re: hearing my own fic read back to me.

In retrospect I shouldn't have been surprised, given the fact that I often can't even read my own stuff after it's done and posted without cringing. Hearing it is somehow a thousand times worse. AUGH DID I WRITE THAT WHY THAT WORD OH GOD THIS IS SO AWKWARD, etc.

This is no fault of constance_b's, mind you: she is a good reader, and her accent makes it much easier to listen to than if I'd been the one reading it out loud. This is just me being a weirdo.

It's funny, I still wouldn't mind if someone wanted to make more of my stuff into podfic, because the fact that it exists as a podfic isn't what freaks me out. I just definitely won't be doing it myself, aaaaaand I can't listen to it at all.

Thank you for taking this trip into the psyche of the americanleaguer. The original story can be found here: Grossly oversimplified. Links to the podficcery can be found right over here, for those of you who are not out of their minds and are actually able to enjoy these things.

(ps: is LJ being a slow-loading dick for anyone else of late, or is it just me?)
