march on city hall

i just love that nagin and riley weren't allowed to speak; one marcher even yelled that anything that nagin said would be "bullshit". the representative from mid-city did an excellent job of addressing the needs of new orleans citizens. i ran into an old pal from loyno that i hadn't seen in years. i saw fieldsofgarlic during the march, and mistakenly assumed i would be able to say hi at city hall. i also saw nola_darling and MA. there must have been thousands of people there; punks, activists, businessman, soccer moms stood together.
i couldn't get any kind of accurate figure on how many people turned up. we, the group that gathered at the wtc, looked mighty, but when the other groups joined in, it was amazing. i wish i'd brought a camera. i like being able to hold on to moments like that, when people come together to stand up for something right -- it's beautiful.

in other news, i had a brief interview with b&N today. they called to set up an interview for cafe work during the march. they're offering at least $8/hr. i'm so excited. contrecoeur is here. jenie is coming out *crosses fingers*; i will dance until my toes bleed at 80s nite.
