What Gives YouTube?

So, apparently YouTube is now forcing me to create a Google account in order to go through my inbox ect.  I don't want to create a Google account.  I don't need it and absolutely have no use for it.

Screw you, YouTube.  I like you so much better before you started shutting down accounts for so-called "Copyright infringement" and forcing us to use Google.
