Several months of HGTV obsession may pay off

I can't start moving until after about the 8th (maybe I should really start packing now? It's REAL), but I called the property guy to confirm that and mentioned I wanted to go over and measure for curtains. He said oh, come on by and get the keys, as long as you don't move anything in. (The cleaning/painting crew hasn't done their thing yet.)

I ended up spending two afternoons there, just measuring everything. I know the dimensions of every window, every room, every closet. And I've seen neighbors! It's wonderful, little gray-haired neighbors. The people across the street are seniors and I think the people with the fence are seniors. After a few years of rapper hell, the idea of seniors as neighbors sounds so peaceful and wonderful.

And the people with the nice fence have DOGS!!!! I needed neighbor dogs so badly. There's a big dog behind the fence, and I peeked in a tiny hole and think he might be a boxer or something. He barked a lot and sounded as if he wanted to eat me, but that's good for security. And he'll like me, because all animals like me. In the front they have what I think is a long-haired chiuhaha (sp). A friend has a little ch. dog, and I told her it was as if they'd taken her dog's face and put him with a mini Siberian Husky. Lots of hair, very yappy and cute. I already want to invite them over to meet the cats (one cat LOVES dogs, and the other does whatever his big brother does) and have some tea and dog biscuits.

A few of the leaves on the little maple tree in front are turning, and I'll be moving in just in time to watch the neighborhood turn orange and red. The front porch/deck is bigger than I thought. 6 feet by 4 feet. Big enough to put a pumpkin and mum, and then some flowers next spring. The hedges in front are a disaster, but my uncle said the first thing he wanted to do was come over with his clippers. He's so sweet and funny.

I sat in the living room for awhile, windows open, and just breathed the air of peace and serentity. It was so grand, so quiet. I felt a contentness that I haven't felt for awhile. No noisy neighbors, a real yard, and a million plans for spring gardening.

I love this little house, so full of charm.
