Big news of this past weekend: our egg supply wasn't keeping up with demand, so on Saturday we headed to the farmers' market with a tremendously important mission: ACQUIRE MORE CHICKENS.
I'm happy to report that the mission was successful, bringing the chook count to a whopping five (5) chooks. We also now have the full spectrum of chicken colours: red, black, and white. They're like a beautiful rainbow of diversity.
Unboxing the chickens. (the chicken vendor helpfully crammed them into a recycled cereal box, securely sealed with masking tape) The netting is for protection from currawongs, fruit bats, etc.
Two chooks, one box. Aren't they lovely?
This fine lady was immediately dubbed "Lucy." The other one is "Hosni," in honor of that day's famous resignation.
2kg of pure chicken indignation.
Fly free, Lucy! Well, for a certain value of "fly." (and a certain value of "free")
The new girls in their holding pen-- we waited until nightfall to smuggle them into the coop with the 3 existing lifers. As of this writing, a poultry detente has been established, all the ladies are scratching and peckin' scraps with abandon. CHICKEN ACQUISITION: RESOUNDING SUCCESS.
Bonus new animal:
Charlotte, professional kitten.
