A converstation I had with Ms. Gaby while sitting is starbucks...
Books that were important to you at various stages in life, and either a brief discription of why or of the book. This made me curious about what other people have. Here are mine...
Childhood (Birth to 12): I would have to say first and formost is Little Women by Lousia May Alcott (I know Sara M. is rolling her eyes). I have distinct memories of being a small child sitting next to my great grandmother, while she read chapters from that book. I also find the main charcter of Jo to be awsome and somewhat of a hero figure. I still find enjoyment of the various arch types of the women in the book, and it is fairy progressive in it's views of the roles of women, for the time periode from which it was written.
Other books from that time periode (of my life), that are not as important but overall enjoyable are: Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin.
Young adult Highschool (13-18): I have two from this time periode., the frist is ON the road by Jack Kerouac. By far the book that has had one of the biggest impact of my life. It opened up a world of possibilties and shapped my desire to leave the small town I grew up in and see the world that was out there. The other book is a book of poetry American Primative by Mary Oliver. One of the few poems I can still quote is Wild geese and over all the raw power of that collection of poems blows me away.
Now: Night by Wesile... this book made me ball. IT is such a personal story not just of the holcost, but a look at the horrors that man can effict onto another man. It is also the story of what the human soul, and spirt can endure. I highly recomend that if you havn't read this book... you do so right now.
There are several other books that I could write on this list, but here are the ones that really have left an impression. Feel free to post or comment on any books that you have these feeling for... ( Part of this will be to build a libary for Chole but overall I find that this in particular gives an intresting bit of insight into each other).
