The place seemed cool, very… horror movie-esque. So cool! Like the Craft, only more awesome ‘cause she was in it! And she could hear voices! She was sure it was a new power granted to her by her gods. Maybe she was becoming an even stronger psivamp, kinda like when you level up in a video game. This was even cooler than when her blood elf mage hit ( Read more... )

She sneezed as Shadow came closer, glancing down before shuffling a half-step away. The cat seemed nice enough, but her allergies disagreed.

Maddie looked around the apartment and felt her blood chill. The markings - though strange and a little off - brought back painful memories for Maddie.

Her mother's kitchen. The kitchen chair. Ropes to bind her to it. A wailing scream of rage and unreachable revenge-

She took a deep breath to push aside the thoughts and forced a smile, taking a wary step inside. The smudges were not missed by Maddie, but she at least had the salt and the iron bar. Those would be helpful. Maddie just hoped it wouldn't come to that.

"I'm Maddie, are you Ravyn?" At the nod, the smile became less forced and she relaxed her arms. "Well, what kind of cleansing circle were you trying to make? What...spirits were you trying to appease? Different spirits respond to different things." Though some see a foolish girl dabbling where they don't belong and come flocking to kill, she thought.

If she said some dark god Maddie was afraid she might have to give the girl a reaming. The Drude suggested she just hit her over the head with the iron rod. It would certainly do the trick. Maddie ignored the suggestion.

[Sorry I am full of fail and it took this long to reply, my life kinda imploded for a week or so. It's slowly getting back to normal xD]

"I-I was just trying to make my apartment safe. Protect it. I was praying to the God and Goddess to make any evil thingies go away. And then-" her voice rose, "-STUPID CAT jumped into the circle and ruined it! Now I have to make it better. It's bad if the circle gets broken, you know," she babbled on, and pulled out a few plastic baggies of dubious-looking dried herbs and a handful of white tea light candles. A few tears spilled down her face.

"You wanna help?" Ravyn asked. She thumbed away a damp trail of mascara from first one cheek, then the other. "I don't know what you can do," she continued, her tone slightly bossy. "I'm a witch, you know," she continued, almost to herself. "Do you want a book?" She turned back to the cabinet and rifled through it, finally pulling out a bright purple softcover book, the title "Witchcraft for Beginners" emblazoned on the cover in silver lettering.

Shadow slowly padded back into the apartment, hissing as she went near the circle. "Go away," Ravyn whined as she spotted the cat. The cat ignored her, however, and sat a few feet away from the circle, her bright gaze flitting from Maddie to Ravyn. "Dumb cat," Ravyn muttered.

Well, okay, at least she wasn't mentioning anyone particularly evil sounding. Though...she also wasn't giving any specific names. A quick glance affirmed that there weren't any marks or sigils of particularly terrible demons. Or really any authentic ones at all. At least not that Maddie had read of.

She heard what Ravyn was saying, but most of her focus was on the circle and the contents of it. When Ravyn offered her the book her attention jerked back to the girl.

"O-oh, no, that's quite all right. I've...already read that one." And she had, even thought she was loathe to admit it. "I...don't think your cat was acting foolishly, though."

Not with how there was a distinct mark from the cat breaking the circle and how it just made the Drude edgy. Much more edgy than normal cats. It was almost...almost like there was something more to it.

"This place, Truth and Consequences, well, it isn't the norm. Trying to perform," she couldn't believe she was actually saying this, "magic is rather dangerous here. It...attracts unwanted attention. Do you...do you see these smears here?"

Maddie crouched down and pointed at the collection of wispy marks left by the thwarted denziens. "They left their mark just before they got to you. And...I have to reason to believe they weren't friendly."

Not that she could really explain why she had those conclusions.
