Just a quick note to let everyone know that I'm (finally) home from what was just supposed to be a Tuesday doctor's appointment.
The quick version: Got there, doc looks and says "You should go down the street to the emergency room, they can run the tests quicker than I can. Here's a note."
I go down the street to the ER, drive around fro half an hour until a parking spot opens up, schlump up the hill to the ER, eventually get seen. Meet a whole lot of cool ER docs, then, after about 6 hours, get admitted.
The rest of the time between then and about an hour ago was spent, mostly, waiting. That waiting was interrupted once in a while by more blood sample taking, CT scans and regular vital sign checks.
Final verdict:
Sarcoidosis (
better link here). A totally non-typical presentation of it. (Because, really, I can't do anything the easy way, right?) Taking prednisone for at least the next week. Followup appointments will be scheduled shortly.
Bottom line: Even when I was at my worst, I was still infinitely better off than just about everyone else I saw as a patient at the hospital. All my vitals and chemistry and whatnot had the docs a bit confused because it was just so healthy. And even when I had the fever of 101 or so, I really didn't feel all that bad as long as I wasn't trying to walk anywhere.
No word yet on root cause, but that's something we can puzzle out with time when I'm dealing directly with the doctor who knows stuff.
Now I shower off four days of ick then start digging through the pile of 100+ e-mail messages.... and all the texts and messages that have come in since my cell ran out of juice on Wednesday.
More later. :)
