Thursday: Great
Refresh DC meeting. Was very happy to see
starsoup7 and
akilika out. Very informative stuff on CSS from
Dan Rubin. I continue to be impressed with the Refresh crew.
Friday: Holiday party at the office. Nothing wild, at least not for me, but at least some good conversation and tasty free food. I just can't really party if I'm still in the same building I work in... I try to keep some boundaries pretty solid and that would just cross too many.
After the party, some of us headed over to Five for what I learned on the way was a birthday celebration for
oipica (yet another former co-worker of mine... there seem to be a lot of those). While Five is a nice enough place, the vibe there just didn't grab me. I'm guessing it is far from what could pass for my "scene" on a Friday night. One of these days I'll get out there on a Thursday and see how that all goes. On the way to the club we ran into my buddy Aaron and dragged him along for the fun. It was a good night, but it seemed a little dead out and about in DC.
Saturday: My party. A hearty thanks to everyone who showed up! It was a great evening. There was
predigested created cheesecake and ice cream cake. More importantly, there was lively conversation that always seemed to be going so well I never bothered to put a movie in. I just couldn't stand to interrupt it. I still have a virgin ice bucket--which means there must be another party at some point. Perhaps next time the ice will arrive... ;)
Sunday: A mostly quiet day. At least until the water came bubbling up and over the edges of things in the bathroom that should contain it. Called the emergency maintenance number, they were nice enough to call back within an hour to let me know the plumbers had been paged. Not too long after that the water had receded from the tub (leaving, of course, sludge) and the toilet was in flushable condition again--slow but usable (which, really, was a good thing). Shortly after that, the plumbers showed up. :|
The next couple of hours (between about 9 and 11 p.m.) were spent listening to the power snakes churn through the pipes in the maintenance area across the hall while a guy ran in and out of the bottom floor apartments flushing and running water until everything ran smoothly. Apparently there may be a crushed or perforated pipe somewhere in the line that gets all sorts of ornery when the ground gets saturated. The guy said they should probably run a camera down it to see... or something. My question is: What has it taken at least three re-occurrences of the problem to decide to do this? My lease is so not being renewed again.
Today: Back to the grind at the office. Blah. There will be a Metaphysical Mondays post. Not sure if it'll make it before lunch (probably not as there is actual work for me to do and I didn't quite finish writing it last night like I had planed).
Onward, ever onward...
