First, technology may keep or kill a show. CBS aims to find out.
CBS: Internet Let Us Rest Jericho MidseasonIn the interim, the network will provide original content and other clips on its website to try and keep viewers hooked into the serialized show about the aftermaths of nuclear explosions on a small Kansas town.ABC is utilizing a similar strategy for Lost.
“This will be a really great experiment for us,” says CBS entertainment chief Nina Tassler.
I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this. It's a new dynamic, that's for sure, but I have to wonder just how many people are willing to accept it. I'd like to see what their online numbers come out to be when it's all said and done. But really, all I'm hoping for is that the show does make it back on the air to finish out a full season. (Though it seems like they're trying to change the definition of "full season" again...)
Now, one of my favorite reality shows is back for another season. Let's see if it can still be good.
Beauty and The Geek To ReturnThe third season of The CW's Beauty And The Geek kicks off with a two-hour season premiere on January 3, 2007 from 8-10 p.m.
This season reality show will pair eight beautiful, but brainless women with eight brainy, but socially awkward men to test smarts and social skills--and see how the two sexes interact.
I really have enjoyed the first two iterations of this show. Mostly because it eschews the "standard" reality show practice of encouraging people to back stab and instead focuses on getting along better.
And, from the "If you haven't been watching it, you really should be" department:
Overnight Ratings: Heroes Has SuperpowersNBC powered its way up to No. 1 on Monday night, on the strength of Heroes, the highest-rated program of the night in the key 18-49 demo (6.7 rating/16 share), and Deal or No Deal, which won the 8-9 time slot with a 5.2/13. The only time slot that was bad news for the Peacock: 10-11, where Studio 60 came in behind CBS' CSI Miami (5.6/14) and the second hour of ABC's Bachelor finale (4.4/11), with a 3.1/8. NBC scored a 5.1/12 overall.
Getting past all the numbers there, the bottom line is Heroes is taking names and kicking ass. The Sci-Fi Channel is running a marathon tonight. If you haven't seen the show, tune in and be amazed. It's the best new thing out there.
