So I've been watching the History Channel...

I always end up in trouble when I watch the History Channel.

Why? Because I have this thing with the past, present and future. If you've read back a post or two, I think I mentioned in passing that I believe in reincarnation. Nothing too funky, I'm not big on theorizing rules about it, I just know what I know from personal experience. And I don't expect anyone to believe any of it until they have similar experiences. I'm sure that at some point in the future I'll go into greater detail. But not tonight.

Anyway, the History Channel did a whole night tonight on the Bible (probably has something to do with the continued popularity of The Passion and the fact that it is Good Friday). So I'm just comming off the late show of that run.

The last hour they showed was about the last book in the Bible. For those of you not familiar with the order of things, that's the Book of Revelation. By far the most Old Testament flavored book in the New Testament.

Of course, you can't talk abut the Book of Revelation without talking about the end of the world (mainly because that's kind of what it's all about). And the end of the world, aside from being a pretty cool topic for an REM song, was always a big topic of conversation for me and my friends.

See, we're big on the end of the world. We firmly believe that it's on its way.

OK, I know what you're thinking. "Do you and your friends all dress the same? Have a compound somewhere that's easy to defend from the FBI and ATF? You're not waiting for some sort of mother ship are you?" Yeah, yeah, yeah... heard it all before.

And NO, it's not at all like that.

We don't see the end of the world in the "all that's left is a charred rock" sort of picture. In fact, we take great pains usually to clarify that we firmly believe the world will go on just fine (if not better) with the six billion or so humans that're running around on it. The world, as it always has, will continue.

To be exact, we refer to this big change as "The end of the world as we know it." Yes, inspired by the aforementioned REM song. Why? Simple, this way, we're not going to be wrong.

The absolute fact is, the world as our grandparents knew it has already ended. The world our parents knew is more or less gone. And thw world all of us have grown up in has taken quite the nose dive.

Honestly, we're all ready for a big change. No matter how bad it may get beforehand. Those that make it through to the other side of the change will have a lot of work ahead of them, but they'll also have the advantage of everything that'll be left behind. And there will be a lot left behind.

Don't get worried. None of us are actively working to bring about some cataclysm. Heck, we'd be happy if we could help aviod a few here and there (who wouldn't?). But we are all for big changes.

And sometimes, big changes are painful.

As the saying goes, "Nothing worthwhile is easy."

So what's my point? I don't think I have one. The only thing close to a point I can come up (after my History Channel overdose, at least) it that when the world ends, we won't realize it. It's not until well after the fact that we'll be able to look back, point and say "Yep, that's when the big change began."

mmm... I should probably sleep or something...
