You know, even though I majored in Women's Studies, they offered it as a "concentration" in Humanities, so that's what's on my degree. No problem with Humanities, but it says something about the priority the department's given. Well, that and everything else about the department. Like their old offices on the second floor of the Interior Design building, past the boarded-up elevator shaft. That made an impression on me.
I suppose even a list that was trying to, say, be a fairly comprehensive list of the best books in history would have its oddities; it's inherently arbitrary, and I don't think these lists are even trying to be that. They're really only good as discussion-starters, which is pretty much what memes seem to be about. Well, also it helps remind you of all the books you always meant to read at some point but have somehow never quite gotten to. That's good. Sort of. ;)
