[ After a brief absence, the video shows Zexion reaching down and picking up a small, dusty -- yep, you guessed it -- book. In the middle of a dark room, snow still blowing wildly about outside through a nearby window. ]

What an interesting find...

[ The cover shows a bunch of ancient, runic symbols, and as he opened it, the language it was ( Read more... )

Are those runic symbols from your world?

They are from a world, though not mine.

Though you can read them, right?

I'll need to do a bit more research, but yes, in time I will be able to.

I see. Were you at least able to determine what this book's about?

Knowing the histories and lores of certain worlds is a bit of a responsibility of mine. This book details the location and history of a lost world. It was recently devoured by the Heartless, and may or may not return. Some are more lucky than others.

So you're kind of an historian, then?

...The Heartless?

Something like that, yes.

[ Also the espionage expert of the Organization, but that was on a need-to-know basis. ]

[And Raven knows enough to be able to tell he won't say anything more about this.]

I see.

And so, those heartless you mentioned? Who or what are they?

Creatures of darkness. Just like a Nobody is a body without a heart, a Heartless is a heart without a body, having taken on darkness as its outer shell. They're ravenous, mindless creatures whose only instinct is to take more hearts, and thus create more Heartless.

There is only one exception I know of among Heartless, however.

[Raven quirks a quizzical eyebrow.] It would have sounded more logical the other way around.

An exception?

There is only one Heartless we know of that was powerful enough to retain its intelligence and self-awareness, and that was the Heartless of the leader of the Organization, Xemnas. It not only was capable of speech and higher thought, but it retained a human shape and form, as well.

Xemnas, huh? Sounds like a special little snowflake.

Why did the leader of the Organisation need a Heartless by the way?

He didn't need one. By all rights, none of us do, and the worlds would all be better off if the Heartless were destroyed. He simply had one by his very nature as a Nobody. As do I, and as does every other member of the Organization.

You're a Nobody, then. Was your Heartless brought here as well?

[So he was a member of the Organisation? Interesting.]

Sorry, I don't think I got your name?

No.

[ He knows this for a fact. He has an epic nose, after all. An ability he shares with Riku. ]
