The most
traumatizing news I've heard all week.
Since I know you REALLY want to go read that article--apparently, a thirteen-year-old girl had her feet severed from her body on the drop ride at our local Six Flags theme park yesterday at about 5:00 p.m. The ride--now known as some Superman shit, but more affectionately known as
"The Hellevator"--has been around for nearly 12 years now. I clearly remember when the ride was first constructed and opened at Kentucky Kingdom, and have been on it myself more times than I can count.
You know, you could have told me the president was assassinated and I probably would have had a similar reaction.
I am just absolutely... speechless. When I think about what it would have been like to sit next to her, to get off the ride and see blood on the ground, to witness her shoes falling fifteen stories--with the feet still in them--to be HER... it all just makes me a little lightheaded.
According to someone who was in the park at the time, they heard a something that sounded like a small explosion, and then saw a cable fly loose from the ride. As the ride dropped, the wires swung across the car. Some news sources are saying that the cable wrapped around her ankles. They also said her shoes could be witnessed dropping from the ride. Just... horrifying.
It's all over the news. The ride is now closed indefinitely--for obvious reasons. It's bizzarre to think that it's shut down... that such a fond part of my childhood can turn so gruesome so quickly. Undoubtedly, this will affect park attendence. At least the lines for
T2 will be short! Right, guys? Right? >_<
