Okay, so, I do believe unnecessary cruelty to animals is abhorrent... and I'd like to be able to transition to vegetarianism and, eventually, veganism (for several reasons, health and religious ethics being at the top), but... this is getting ridiculous!
Many people in the vegan community loathe PETA and everything they do, and some of them would probably be all *point and laugh* at this article as well.

Some ethical vegetarians and vegans are choosing this lifestyle for environmental reasons and also because apparently there is a logic of being able to feed more people with the grain and soy fed to livestock than feeding people by slaughtering said livestock. Now, that's where that lifestyle theoretically comes into play when it comes to helping fellow humans.
And, hey, humans are animals too. Don't we deserve to be treated humanely too? I don't see PETA stepping in to help the victims of the Sendai Earthquake.

I've also heard that they euthanize an absurd amount of animals that aren't re-homed. Um, ethical? THEY can kill thousands of animals?!
