My friend Doug and I had this little poetry thing going on one day/night. And we both really enjoyed it, so I thought I'd share it with you all...
Obviously, this is us... :)
Miranda:
Take it to the grave, young man. Take it to the grave. Take a shovel with you, young man... and go stand out in the dirt. Dig your own grave, young man. Dig your own grave. Remember what the wise woman told you, never disobey.
Doug:
I'll sleep forever with you and I shall never leave your side. Left with cold earth, I shall miss you eternally, but never regret what I have done for you today. For I will always remember the wise woman's words that have fallen to my ears like a spear from the heavens above.
Miranda:
Have you looked behind you lately, young man? The wise woman told you, "Never disobey." You disobeyed one important command, "Dig your own grave, young man." Now in the grass you shall lie, broken up inside... For the wise woman told you never disobey. Now you're living with the largest sin. Wolves will tear you shreds, young man... for your grave was not dug and you disobeyed the wise woman's command.
Doug:
My one request was never met. I stood for days in Hunger's grave. Always unsure whether the wise woman would come, so I still stand waiting on that lustful day, for my last request I do pray. Forgotten am I to stand here for all of time, never able to obey for what I cannot say. Where have you gone? I dare not say.
Miranda:
I took the time to meet you, yet you were un-found. I searched and searched for hours, on the highs and lows of the grounds. The sounds in the night echoed with every breath I took. Where you were, I'm unsure of... but where I am, I know best. Down below, inches beneath the snow, lies the body of the beautiful. The wise woman told you never disobey... Disobeyed herself is what she did... Followed her heart instead of her mind. This is where it got her, years ahead of her time.
Doug:
Wishing I had... Forever standing I shall be, an unspoken tome to my wedded hand. I will never find where I wish to be. For it is far, yet so near to me. Forever I stand, thoughts within this man. Never shall I feel again. Left standing on an errand's end. The task is done, although for words I have none. When will I find that place of mine, between time and Earth, where you are mine?
Miranda:
The path we wished upon and the path we chose are separated between reality and dream. For in your dream, you stood still... watching, waiting. I sang a song and you danced along, but only in your mind could you remember the song. With lust all around, not a single word could be spoken... for if time really stood still long enough for you to hear my sweet song, all would be lost and the world would be broken.
Doug:
I would lose my soul for the last breath of the words you spoke to me that day, so the devil wished it that way. He has granted me all of time to find this wish of mine. I lost my way. There's always a price to pay for the chance to find forgiveness I would hope to find. I should never have found that friend of mine, for he has made me lose this story of mine. The one where we were ever in-twined. I lost my way... what more could I say?
Miranda:
Wood cracks and glass shatters. Hearts break, and minds explode. Lost in a world of nonsense is the path everyone comes to. Life doesn't let one stand on a perfect road. There's no such thing as a perfect road when you're standing only to fall and walking only to crawl. There are twists and there are turns. There is beauty and there is ugly. An indefinite way to live a life. Not everyone can see the colour green, which lies beside every road we walk.
Doug:
Mine is the path where beauty of the soul yearns and burns your name. For all that I have done, I will be shamed. Will it ever be the same? I found my path in the forest road. Though it may be strewn and ravaged by time, it leads to a place within my mind where you will find the grass has withered upon one patch. This cannot be for me to see, as the light has never encompassed me. There is a brief moment where I do see you standing in front of me. Now I know what your words did mean. I know the devil's gift has a purpose. The deeper I dig within this earth, the closer I find what I left behind, forever lost in this blackened patch. I will never be lost again, for in this darkness the light glows. I am no longer alone, as hundreds of little hands rip at me, drawing me further into the void, that I am deep within. One hand holds truth, the hand I married. That hand is you. I will never part your side now that my vow is filled. If only you knew I was here with you.
Miranda:
Yet, somehow the sun shines in shades of blue. I know now that you never disobeyed the one command that was true. It's the command that tied us together in a way that no man and no woman has ever felt before. A love so strong, so powerful, yet so feared. Forgiveness only comes in trust. Trust is what you had in me, I broke away not knowing. Angered with myself is what I felt, gazing to the stars above. Lost in the never-ending sea of love, only to perish in the flames of lust. Truth be told, I forgave you long ago. That night when you did not show, I was certain you had ridden off into the night... to live your life of fear, leaving me here with nothing more than shattered glass piercing at my heart with every beat. I'll have you know it, not a moment went by that I did not stop to think of how dear you are to me. Through the eyes of a grave, you were nothing more than a body to bury... But through the eyes of truth, you were everything from lust to love.
Doug:
I found all the words that were left unspoken for all the seasons of our parting. With them, I sew a quilt to wrap the frozen soul that my forgotten hand has clasped so strong. I will never let it slip again, for time will repeat how it had forgotten me. But one thing will never change, for all that I lost I have now found. Though time forgets me, I breathe a new, warm light back to the one I love... Enjoy it while it lasts. With this final gift to you before I pass, I find your soul and wrap it in all the words I never spoke. I'm sorry that I had not spoken sooner, but my heart was wrapped in the cold snow from another's games. Love I will never lose, I share with you now. As you awake, I slowly fall. Softly, I now rest my head. My mission is done, my lust is dead. Love is all that I leave you, it was my only friend. Goodnight.
Miranda:
I slowly begin to reach from the ground, to grasp your hand. You're no longer with me. May you rest so sweetly. It's been wonderful having you around. I pray your soul is safe and that you finally hear my song. For I sang it to you long ago, but you could not listen with full attention. The softness of my song only touched your heart, but never spoke. May you always remember the words of the wise woman... for she never spoke untrue words.
