All my writer friends who read this book are like "hey, that King dude can write!" And I just smile, because I was way ahead of that curve.
I'm 2 and a half books away from my monthly goal, so wish me luck (I've got 2 half-finished now, so I think I can make it if I hustle.)
Here is my favorite quote from On Writing so far:
The object of fiction isn't grammatical correctness but to make the reader welcome...to make
him/her forget, whenever possible, that he/she is reading a story at all...Writing is
seduction.
I read this after realizing I was halfway through a textbook and had barely noticed the time going by. That is exactly what I love to read, books that make me forget I'm reading at all. Books that disappear through my fingers. If nothing else, I'd like to write a story that disappears for someone, someday.
