There was a strange sound. A humming, a violent humming. It was her cell phone. Elizabeth opened her eyes slowly. It was still dark outside. She had slept late. After dropping William at his flat, she came home and started reading a book, lost track of time and fell asleep later than she intended.
Taking one hand out of her gloriously warm covers, Elizabeth didn’t check to see who it was, just answered it. “Elizabeth Leslie,” she mumbled.
“Liz!!” A shrill voice came through the phone and Elizabeth recognized it immediately. It was Juliana, her good friend who lived in West Kensington. They went to primary school together, and kept in touch afterwards. Elizabeth was also friendly with her sister Diana. “Liz, have you seen this morning’s Sun?”
“Jules, the sun has not risen yet. I’ll call you later.”
“No, THE SUN! As in, the newspaper. You’re on the bloody cover!” Juliana was yelling now, clearly excited. “You’re on the cover, holding hands with WILLIAM BLOODY MOSELEY!”
Elizabeth sat up straight in bed. “Ok Jules, I will call you back.” Frantically she put on a dressing robe and ran into the kitchen. Her father had all the London newspapers delivered every morning as soon as they were published. The Sun was there, though only the maids ever cared to read it. Elizabeth scanned the pile, and found her own face on the cover of the paper. The entire cover, the whole thing. “Oh, hell.” Her eyes still were not focusing as she saw the enormous color picture of William and her, holding hands and running through the crowd. “Article follows on page 2?” Elizabeth thought aloud while frantically turning pages. What she found was not a pretty sight.
There were more pictures of William and her, her car, and someone had even found the empty Harrods box containing the strawberries. It was insanity. And to wrap it up, an article by London’s top gossip reporter, Skita Reeter.
NARNIA STAR EYES LOVE!
Skita Reeter
London, UK. William Moseley, star of the beloved Chronicles of Narnia movies and teen heartthrob the world over, has finally found love, your favorite columnist reports. He was spotted yesterday evening romancing with Elizabeth Leslie, daughter of PR and record industry mogul George Leslie, at none other than the London Eye. The couple was ambushed by fans of Moseley, and escaped only when Leslie used her VIP pass to get onto the Eye. Your favorite reporter wishes she could tell you what went on in that capsule for thirty minutes, but perhaps that is better left to the imagination! Our lovely couple then exited quickly and left in Leslie’s car. They were seen by eyewitnesses holding hands and very much in love. Your favorite reporter brought it to you first!
“Wow,” Elizabeth stared for another moment and then burst out laughing. This was utterly ridiculous. She helps a man she hardly knows and now the world thinks they are an item. She sighed and went back to her room to get ready for work.
She decided to take one of her father’s cars to work, a discrete black BMW. On the way, she called Jules and Diana to explain everything was of course a lie, and they would be the first to know if she ever fell in love. Once at work, she explained the story again, and again when her father called.
He only just laughed, saying that William himself called that morning to explain to Mr. Leslie that he would never date his daughter without permission.
By lunchtime, the entire matter had been settled and Elizabeth dove back into her preparations for the gala.
