2. How do you style your hair?
I gotta go with chelseagirl47's answer here: "I wash it; it dries."
3. What are you wearing now?
Now: Flannel pajamas in a vaguely Japanese floral, predominantly in shades of pink; furry black house slippers. Soon: Dark rinse jeans, black sneakers, yet another of the woolen sweaters I had already put away.
4. What's your occupation?
I manage a book production team at Big Publishing Company. My current list is Information Technology, which means manuals for basic productivity skills like MS Office, and "Computer Concepts" books for general Computers 101-type courses. My big project right now is about creating a workflow that automates the transition from traditional print books to print-on-demand custom editions where instructors choose only the individual chapters they want from our PDF library.
5. What do you hear right now?
The garbage truck down on the street.
6. What's your favourite guilty pleasure treat?
I currently have a tube of store-brand chocolate chip cookie dough in the fridge. It's amazingly indulgent to just scoop some off and have a couple of hot, fresh cookies in 15 minutes.
7. What are you thinking about right now?
How to schedule an emergency dentist visit during a week in which I am also covering for my manager while she is on vacation. I'm already pretty maxed out on time, but I lost a crown last night while eating a piece of steak.
8. Write the first word that comes to mind.
Hackensack (ack-ack-ack). I was listening to Billy Joel last night, and that song always gets stuck in my head.
9. Dog person or cat person?
Neither, really, but my husband loves dogs so much that he is starting to win me over. I've never had a pet as an adult, though.
10. If you came across $2,000 (or other currency) would you keep it or turn it in?
Turn it in. I actually found a $100 bill in Zabar's last year and gave it to the cashier.
11. What was the last thing that you bought?
Lunch at Burger King and admission to the Queens Museum.
12. If you could afford to go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I want very much to visit the Benelux countries with my beer-loving husband, who has never been abroad.
13. Where do you see yourself in five minutes?
Slogging through the work email so I know what I'm getting into for the day.
14. Last book you've read?
I'm reading a biography of Julius Caesar for book group. The book is good, if a bit overstuffed, but I doubt I will really get it finished before tomorrow night's meeting. Luckily, I already know how it ends.
15. What are you doing this weekend?
Meeting my husband's high school sweetheart for the first time. Hours of obsessing about wardrobe have not brought me any closer to an idea of what to wear.
16. If you could play any musical instrument, which one would you play?
I love playing the piano, but I am not much good at it. I'd like to have room for my piano where I live, and time to practice on it.
17. How are you?
Not bad for a Monday morning, except for the part about the lost dental crown. It's my left upper molar; my right lower molar was extracted last year and is awaiting an implant, so I really have no big chewing surface available right now. But I slept well, at least.
18. What are you doing tomorrow?
Typical workday and then book group in the evening. We're meeting in a restaurant inside the Woolworth tower. I'm looking forward to the elaborate mosaics in the lobby.
19. What are you looking forward to the most?
Trip to California. It's not until May, so I have a lot of looking forward left to do, but planning is a big part of the fun for me.
