Holiday weekend update:
1. Mostly dedicated to stripping our apartment prior to having the newfound bedbugs exterminated. It's really gross. I will refrain from further detail at this time.
2. Camping out as holiday house-sitters in the bug-free burbs in the evenings. This has been a pleasant respite, except for the part where our hosts' dog escaped her tether and disappeared for a good six or seven frantic hours. (Well, frantic for us. We'll never know what it was like for her.) Luckily for all, she appeared, tired and dirty but unharmed, on the doorstep around midnight. We have now fitted her for a harness that is much more secure than the collar she wriggled out of. I think the dog time is doing Leit a world of good. He really loves being with her and I am beginning to suspect that there is a canine-American in our future.
3. Fantastic visit with
kupukello and her family, visiting from Finland. Last night we had a picnic and watched the Macy's fireworks extravaganza over the Hudson River. The show was a good half hour long and truly dazzling. I also made one of the best potato salads of my cooking career, with much kitchen help from Leit. And we learned that Finns do not have fireworks in the summer because, effectively, they don't have nighttime in the summer. I guess this makes sense.
4. I'm so relieved the rainy weather has broken. It's been warm and sunny but not too hot while we are doing so much physical labor right now.
5. And because Five Things Make a Post: How 'bout that Sarah Palin?
