Somehow I had drifted away from remembering that. In the past couple of months I have not been listening to my iPod. First I switched to a smaller handbag in an effor to minimize stress on my back, so there wasn't a lot of room for it in there, and it is a bit heavy. And then I was commuting by car quite a lot while Leit was ill, so I could be more flexible and available. I tend to listen to the radio in the car (WBGO or WRXP) most of the time, and only hook up the iPod there on longer trips.
But this week, since I bought the new larger handbag, I dug out my iPod and charged it up. Commuting by bus for the last few days, I have been listening to some of the mixes that Leit and I exchanged when were still dating long-distance. Since he is in Florida this week, it was a very nostalgic reminder of one of the ways we had worked out to stay connected while in different cities. This was especially significant for him. When we met in 2007, he was a vinyl snob who didn't own a single mp3. By the end of 2008, he was DJ'ing a New Year's Eve party off his phone.
When I'm driving, the radio is good company, and it introduces me to new music. But cocooning in the back of the bus with my own playlists is deeply satisfying to me.
geoviki recently pulled me into a new music comm here, and I can feel myself gearing up for summer downloads and new mixes. I am also getting re-energized thinking about the playlists I want to make for the wedding reception. Gotta get me some more Esquivel.
In sum: Yay, music! I missed you.
In completely unrelated news, I have gone back to taking fish-oil capsules with my daily vitamin. They are supposed to be good for my heart, and I can definitely tell the improvement in my previously brittle fingernails. But they give me cat-food breath! It is a disconcerting aftertaste with my morning coffee.
