I'm not stupid, Ray Vecchio thought to himself as he finished his third drink, trying not to look at one particular table across the bar.
He and Fraser had had a few veiled conversations during the time they worked together, usually in one of their apartments over a couple of beers from the fridge. Each time, Vecchio knew what was being communicated, and each time, he managed to suggest that while he wasn't opposed to the idea, it just wasn't the right moment for him to take that step.
He figured there would always be another chance ... until there wasn't. Maybe I really am stupid.
As soon as he saw Fraser and Ray Kowalski sitting together at that table, he knew instantly. They'd had the same conversation-and it had ended very differently. There wasn't anything blatant about the way they interacted, but to Vecchio's knowing eyes, Fraser's body language spoke of an intimacy beyond detective partnership.
Naw, not stupid. Just unlucky. It could have been me.
If he closed his eyes, he could easily imagine them together. Fraser nibbling down Kowalski's spine. Fraser throwing his head back in ecstacy while Kowalski traced his scrotum with his tongue. Kowalski on Fraser's lap with Fraser's cock up his ass, undoubtedly encased in a condom that was reasonably protective against HIV, gonorrhea, syphilis, and the sadly-underestimated chlamydia.
Vecchio shook his head. That was the problem with fantasizing about Fraser-he knew his friend's speech patterns too well and they always intruded just at the hottest part. "And anyway," he mumbled aloud to himself, "I already missed my chance."
"I wouldn't be so sure of that, Ray," said a familiar voice beside him. He turned to see Fraser and Kowalski standing at the bar and cursed his lack of observational skills; he hadn't even noticed them leaving their table.
He was hoping to make a snappy comeback, but what came out was, "Um ... really?"
Kowalski leaned a friendly arm around his shoulders. How does that guy manage to look so cool wearing those dorky glasses? Vecchio wondered.
"Yah, really," said Kowalski with a grin. "Fraser and me ... well, we've been talking and ... we'd like to share."
Maybe I'm lucky after all, thought Vecchio. He paid for his drink and followed his new lovers out of the bar.
