Movie: Daredevil

This was a bit weird - the DVD we rented was defective (we'll be getting a coupon for a free rental when we return it). In the meantime, we went to another store and rented their videotape, and switched back and forth, watching the DVD when possible. Only about two chapters were unwatchable. It was interesting to see the differences; the tape picture was much lighter, and not being letter-boxed gave it a close-up feel compared to the DVD. The DVD picture was much sharper and darker. OTOH, the videotape came with previews of other movies and the music video for "Bring Me To Life" (which I hadn't realized was on the soundtrack); the DVD came with diddly. I really didn't feel like watching the whole movie again just to get commentary; there wasn't anything *separate* from the movie like a making-of featurette or deleted scenes or anything.
I enjoyed the movie a lot. The special effect they used to convey the hero's sort of exaggerated echolocation reminded me of the effect when Frodo put on the Ring in the LOTR movies. It was cool and they didn't overuse it.
I loved the scene where Daredevil and Elektra go at it on the playground. (I mean fighting, you pervs!) It reminded me of watching the upper-level black belts fight at the dojo, when each one knows not only the moves, but the counter-moves, and when it's done just right no one lands a blow. Very yin-yang movement, and they were having *fun*. One of my favorite movie martial-arts scenes in a long time.
And dude! Not only a blind superhero, but a CATHOLIC superhero! And both Stan Lee (whom TODS spotted) and Frank Miller (whose name we saw in the credits) had cameos.
Guess we'll have to rent Elektra next.
