Karigurashi no Arrietty

"The Borrower Arrietty" is a Studio Ghibli Anime based on the novel "The Borrowers"
(I think the English title is only "Arrietty" but I'm not sure.)

It was released in July 2010 (!!!) in Japan and I've waited a whole freakin' YEAR for it to appear in German movie theaters, but although it should have been released in June I never saw it anywhere!
Asshole film industry! Shall I wait another year for the DVD to be released?
I was tired of waiting and downloaded it. In Japanese, because anything else is a waste of time.
I'll buy the DVD anyway, so chill out!! (-__-)'

The movie itself is very nice! The overall plot is well known, I guess. I've never read the novel, but I'm sure the Ghibli version is, like any other movie adaption, different from the original. There is few action and it is not really a thrilling movie, but it's somehow melancholic and just beautiful!

I don't want to spoil anything, so I move on to what makes the movie so nice.

I loved to watch the characters and settings. Everything is so beautiful and detailed. You can see that there was much love put into it in every single frame. The tiny Borrower world is so cute! Sometimes it's slightly unrealistic (for example the tiny furniture with even tinier patterns), but in other aspects it's surprisingly plausible and creative.

A very important aspect for me was the music! The soundtrack is simply wonderful! I've been listening to the Soundtrack for weeks and loved it, but in the movie it was even better! The atmosphere it created was so lovely! A mixture of celtic harp, violin and guitar tunes, combined with the fairy like voice of Cécile Corbel, a French singer. (She sung the theme song in Japanese, French, English, and even German! I guess she can speak neither Japanese nor German, consequently it sounds a little bit strange! But I can only praise her efforts!)

I haven't found any English trailer, so maybe in English speaking countries it's even harder to get to see the movie!
Here's a trailer from Japanese TV with English subtitles.

I recommend it to anyone who loves melancholic, romantic, nice movies and Studio Ghibli works in general! ♥
