Written on mulberry paper with a calligraphy brush in standard Western left-to-right English:
Robert,
You have displeased me and dishonored me. I am held responsible for your actions, though I know you do not care for such matters. I have been watching you and while you do your job well, you are out of control in your personal life. Because of this, I am placing some conditions upon your survival. If you do not heed these conditions or if you dishonor me in such a way as you have, you will die. The conditions are thus:
1. You are still allowed to carry on with your behaviors, no matter how atrocious they are. However, your ability to perform in such ways is directly related to the amount of affection your wife has for you at the time. If she has no affection for you, you are not able to do much more than bruise.
2. Your wife's affection will also impact your physical health. Currently, she has very little affection for you and as such, you will begin to feel very sick. The symptoms will abate once her affection has been restored.
3. I brought you back for the sake of your family. Currently, your behaviors have been dishonoring them as much as they have me and you have been hurting them greatly. The next time you break one of your children's hearts, you will perish. If you ever decide to harm them, you will perish.
The letter is sealed with a beautiful square stamp in red ink and left on his desk.
