So, I was sick of Ocean City, and wanted to move home. And then I decided to stick around. And to all my nay-sayers, I'm well aware that all of this flip-flopping is not becoming of a candidate for Presidency of the United States, which is why I say to you, "I'm not running". Actually, that's my campaign slogan.
I went to City Hall today and got a Street Performer Permit. I'm going to try my hand at good old fashioned busking. I've been thinking about it for a good week or so, and up until Yesterday, I was convinced that I'd try to focus primarily on playing accordion. But yesterday I got it out and realized that I don't actually know how to play the accordion. ...So...I had Guitar/Accordion printed on my permit. Just in case of projectile vegetables.
I am so broke, and have not been legitimately supporting myself in Ocean City. I'm really reaching out, here. Quite personally, I think I've been put through some really weak shit in the last year or so, and would like to cash in my karma chips um...now.
If I can come back around financially by spending my time playing on the boardwalk, even if I have to spend 90% of my free time just sitting there with an open guitar case and bleeding fingers, it'll be a dream realized (in a dark, perverse sort of way). I always said my dream job was being able to support myself playing my music. We'll see what happens.

Oh man! I'm totally excited about this new possibility of awesomeness in my life! I've been thinking about it all day.
Busking repertoire I can immediately pull out of my ass:
Miner Bird
Foggy Tuesday Morning
The Turnaround
Green Duvets (I'll have to rearrange it for guitar, but it's simple enough.)
King Sugar
Random doodles that sound good?
Potential covers to learn:
Death Cab: I will follow you into the dark
Bjork: All Is Full Of Love
Iron & Wine: Naked As We Came
Feist: Mushaboom
Grandaddy: Now It's On
Jon Brion: Over Our Heads
the Lovin' Spoonful: Coconut Grove
Nedelle: Good Grief (&/or) World Warrior
Iron & Wine: Sodom South Georgia
Decemberists: Of Angels And Angles
Elliott Smith: Somebody That I Used To Know
Radiohead: House of Cards
They Might Be Giants: She's An Angel
Tom Waits: God's Away On Business
Wilco: Handshake Drugs
Can anyone else suggest an excellent song that could easily be performed by one dude with a guitar? I'm trying to steer clear of any heavily instrumental or orchestral songs. Now that I think about it, I've been spending a lot more time on guitar in the last two years than anything else. I think I'm confident enough now to just get out there with a guitar and mess around and assume the sounds I'm producing don't suck. Sure hope that's true! Irish whiskey + coffee = awesome. Math IS delicious.
