Hey peeps,
I have a really really big problem. Well, at least it's a really big problem in my little world. And I would be eternally greatful if anyone could help me out.
I know it's the weekend and everything and there's hardly anyone who checks their flist on weekends - hell, I rarely do that myself - but I hope there are a few of you who do and that there is someone among you who has an idea what for the love of my sanity could be done about the following:
I have an .avi file that's being wonky. Wonky, as in: I can't open it with ANY media player. Not even VLC will play it. Every program I try to open this file with dies. So does the Windows explorer if I so much as dare to CLICK on the file - I'm not even talking about opening it, mind you. Just highlighting the file with the cursor.
And my explorer dies instantly.
I've tried downloading a new codec pack in case mine were too old but that's not it, it appears.
Meanwhile, all I want to do is delete the file, so I can at least access the rest of the folder. But how can I delete a file that I can't even click on?
Does anyone know a way to delete a file in, like, the command window or something? So I don't need to access it via the Windows explorer (which obviously needs to load it and hence keeps shutting down before I get to do anything)?
The problem is that it's the first file in the folder whenever I try to open the folder in another program - like the PSP converter, for example. And as soon as I load the folder, the program shuts down. And I don't get to change the starting folder - so that I could at least convert OTHER files which are perfectly fine. But I can't change the directory because the program dies before I can do that.
So, yeah, really, I just want to delete it and I CAN'T *cries*
Help? PLEASE! Anybody? I'm kind of on the verge of a medium-sized breakdown :(
Thanks in advance for any kind of help!
Ps: I already ran a full virus check (erm, long overdue, okay, I admit it *coughs*) and it came up with nothing. So I'm guessing it's not virus infected. Besides, it's one episode from a batch of episodes all downloaded through one torrent. And all the other files are fine. So I'm really running out of ideas here.
SOLVED! FINALLY! IT IS SOLVED! THAT WRETCHED FILE IS GONE. GONE FOR GOOD \o/
It took about two hours, dozens of unsuccessful 'del' commands, searching through various internet forums and eventually, the installation of TuneUp Utilities.
This tool did what not even the cmd window could do.
I might have to ask my dad for the full version again. I clicked through the trial version and there are a few features that seem quite useful - what with me tending to just dump stuff on my computer wherever it may fall.
Thanks so much anyway for taking your time and offering your help - by commenting or via ICQ ♥
