spn remix rec and reveal

spn_remix reveals last week, and quiet_rebel did a cool remix of my story Soonest Mended. It's called The You and The Me. (slight Dean/Jo, R)

It's like a teeter-totter. One goes up, one goes down, one goes up, one goes down.

Dean is fucking sick of it.

Sick of Jo giving them the cold shoulder. Sick of Sam not looking anyone in the eye. Sick of the way they tip-toe around each other.

It's from Dean's POV (which is my weakness in SPN fic, I'll admit) and has some interesting tweaks that I didn't think about when I wrote my original story.

I wrote a remix of giventofly37's story our eyes told the dawn we were old.

(the road is our home remix) (Sam, Dean, John -- gen, G)

Pre-series, Sam and another summer on the road for the Winchesters.

Remixing is hard. *g* Often it's hard for me to find my own distinct voice and try to find a way to make it my own story. For remix_redux, I tried an updated version of the story I had chosen, making it more canon compliant, and I'm pretty sure I switched the

I'm not sure I succeeded in the distinct voice this time around, but I think that was more intentional on my part. I tried to write in the style giventofly37 had adopted and it was an interesting experiment. Writing without quotations is a challenge because you have to make sure that there's still indicators of what's dialogue and what's description, and not make it too dense or confusing (or annoying). Did I succeed in that aspect? Umm, I don't know, as I haven't received any comments on it yet, but I'd like to know re: readability if people follow the link.

Also in this remix, I lengthened the story (the original is more of a drabble) by expanding the timeframe and showing what had triggered the night car trip. I also changed POVs, from Dean to Sam, and well, that was pretty much a given for me. I don't know-- Sam's just easier for me to write, especially in more introspective pieces like this.

Anyway, overall, quite a cool experience, and one I might do again in the future
