There are no words to describe the Paul McCartney concert on Thursday night. I mean, I could try for hours, but I just can't convey both what happened, and my feelings. The closest I can come is "Awesome!" and "Amazing!" It really was. I can't describe the feeling of looking down at the stage (with or without the binoculars) and knowing that yes, that was Paul McCartney, and yes, you're hearing him playing and singing, and yes, he's really in the same room as you are.
The beginning was cool, but strange. A bunch of people dressed in pretty costumes from different time periods entered from all the hallways on the ground floor and danced on stage. the huge videoscreen flashed pretty images of nature and history, and then, at last, it was the black shadow of Paul holding his bass in the air on a white screen. I have never heard a louder cheer!
He sang "Hello Goodbye" first, then I lost track of all the songs. He was funny and witty and his voice sounded wonderful. All the songs were great. It was truly one of the best experiences in my life. To feel what I felt when I was singing "Let it Be," "Hey Jude," and "Yesterday" with a stadium of people waving lighters... there really aren't any adequate words.
Some high-and-low-lights. Highlights: Paul. The actual concert. His funny quips, most notably the massage stories. The John and George Tributes were tearjerkers. The fireworks during "Live and Let Die" were awesome and unexpected. His add-in on the Golden Slumbers medley of "This is the part where I never remember the words" was hilarious. And, just as funny was when he sang Yesterday during the Second Encore and messed up a line. I think he switched "Yesterday came suddenly" and "I believe in yesterday" and the room was filled with quiet laughter & he smiled sheepishly.
The only low-light was the guy smoking pot in front of me. Whenever he blew out the smoke, it came wafting back to me. It smelled so bad, too. Oh, and we almost got into an accident trying to get out of the parking lot because people can't drive. The prices were expensive ($35 for a shirt, but I love it), but it was worth it.
I got to drive home in the van. Windows down, music blasting (our ears still hadn't recovered), doing 75 mph after seeing Paulie... it was such a peaceful and exciting feeling.
I wasn't as tired yesterday as I thought I'd be. Perhaps the adrenaline is still pumping. Anyway, I have a band contest I must get ready for, so this is it for now.
Love Live Paul McCartney!
