Life, as Always, is a Mixed Bag

Things are up and down in the world of Amber.

When I get home tonight, I'm going to call Peoples Energy yet again to follow up on the faxed proof that my father sent to them on Wednesday. I don't want them to just let it slide - so I will be persistent. Or, failing that, I will pester them.

Yesterday things re: my work visa extension seemed up in the air. Today, they are still up in the air, but the air's a little clearer. HLG is going through with the lawyer, the filing, the sponsoring, all that jazz, in the hopes that I get my extension and can stay an additional 12 months. Which I've agreed to. I really only wanted 6 more months, but if they're putting up the money and the effort, and and and I get a "substantial" raise (boss's words - very exciting! I'm pretty psyched about this aspect. She knows I have to pay my student loans back come January), then I can certainly suffer through six more months in glorious London. I might even have to fly home in October for a week or so and then come back to validate the visa. Things are iffy, and any of this is valid and relevant only if my visa gets approved, which it might not. And I won't know either way until mid-late September, which is going to drive me absolutely nuts. It's so last minute, but what can you do?

If the visas are declined, Megan and I have to leave the UK on 11 October. Which, finding out at the end of September, doesn't give us a lot of time. The way I see it, though, if both Megan and I can't extend our visas, we can go live and work in Ireland for 2 months (fun!) until our plane tickets home for Christmas. Or we can bite the bullet to change our ticket date and come home in October. If we stay, I hope Megan can stay the full 12 months, but if she only can stay 6 months, then I'll be able to survive 6 months on my own (I hope). Maybe that will finally get my writing butt in gear.

I've also got some issues going on with my feet, and my toe, and my back/neck. Plus, it's that time of the month. So I feel wonderful! But, really, I don't feel that bad.

Tomorrow is Beerfest and 2001: A Space Odyssey. And it's supposed to get up to 27 degrees (or 80, as I like to call it). A taste of summer before autumn comes in.

All right. I've had this window open for a long time, sneaking in to write snippets here and there. Time to get back to work. I had a brief, ten minute period this morning where my inbox was completely empty. And now... there's a stack that can't even fit in it. Gotta love Fridays!

P.S. Finished The Godfather triology. Godfather Parts I & II - AWESOME! Godfather Part III - crappy, except the end. And yet still crappy.
