My mind is currently filled with this man ... understandable considering that the talented Rupert Graves plays him who is rather appealing if I must say. Anyway I figured I'd start chucking out my various pieces of headcanon ... some of it isn't concrete or perfect, come contradicts itself but here are my little musings on the Silver Fox of Scotland Yard.
When he was younger he wore leathers, rode a motorbike, played football and didn't grow up in London. He only moved there after his wife gave birth to his first child, Ellie. When he was younger he gave another man head but beyond that has only been with women. His parents raised him in the Church of England but he now only goes to Church on Christmas and Easters. They died when he was in his twenties. He has an older sister by three years who moved to Australia, and a younger brother who ran into a lot of drug problems. He grew up in the low-middle class bracket.
Lestrade helped Sherlock get off drugs when he first met him. Maggie was down in Dorset for a bit with the kids and Greg had the house free. She was not happy when she found out he had housed a drug addict.
He knows Mycroft but finds him a little bit intimidating and is unsure of him.
His full name is Gregory Richard Lestrade. He is a quarter French in him but is otherwise English.
He did go to university. I'm thinking he would've done an Arts degree or something to that effect. He wasn't the most studious of people back then.
After seperating with his wife, she is planning to live permanently in Dorset. They are going to sell the family home in London and he is renting a tiny flat that has two bedrooms but looking for another place that is a bit bigger so he has room for his kids.
THE WIFE: Now we all know Lestrade is married. In my fanfic
Bloodstream his wife is known as Maggie. Her full name is Margret and they met at a football match. The meeting at a football match is a consistent element for me personally. I like the idea of a young-ish, outgoing Lestrade meeting this outspoken football mad-girl and hitting it off. I could see them dancing around getting together for ages, being good friends before they actually get together ... and that is what kills their relationship in the end.
His wife I also like to think was originally from Dorset as in Scandal and I can see her spending the holidays with her parents - Greg's dear in-laws.
All the Arthurian references in the Fall have made me tempted to call her Guinevere for obvious reasons and from this naturally the PE teacher is called Lance. Hey, maybe that's Maggie's middle name.
CHILDREN: Now as for his family - I like to see him having at the least two children who will always be six years apart. Eleanor 'Ellie' Lestrade is fifteen generally because I love the idea of him having a slightly rebellious teenage daughter who lives for her dad's crazy stories from his youth, wears his old leather jacket and Lestrade is constantly worrying about her. Then he has his son, Peter, who is nine and loves all manner of sci-fi, has a knack for very very basic science and enjoys playing a bit of football with his Dad on the weekend. Yeah, he is a little underdeveloped compared to Ellie ...
But if he has more than two children then he has six. Ellie remains as the eldest and then there is Hannah* who is thirteen who is a vegetarian and determined to save the world. Next there is Peter as always who is nine, and then there is Imogen* who is six, and then there are his twin boys, Benjamin* and Arthur* who are 4-2 years old. I picture these ages being around the time of season 2 ... fluctuates a bit but at its core this is it.
His kids more or less all know Sherlock - Ellie and him don't get along, Hannah asks too many questions and Sherlock ignores her, Peter is rather quiet but Sherlock indulges him. He is in no way cruel to Imogen because Lestrade would kill him but holds no other patience for her, and the twins he avoids.
*name changes are possible
And that is that at the moment. There may be more. I don't know. Its all very changeable and inconsistent. Gah. Need to get this straight in my head.
