pust and post and, well, things

ayyam-i-ha is now over, and the fast has started. or, as it is called in slovenia, post. it's half way through the first day of the fast, and well, i'm dealing with it quite well, actually. i've always kinda found it relatively easy to do the Fast, so long as i actually Fast, and not just mindlessly not eat. the spiritual significance of the Baha'i Fast usually helps keep me on track, until that moment when i break and just give up. this year, however, i am going to complete the Fast. not only because there are so many people that i interact with also fasting, but because i really feel the spirit of it this year. i've really started to feel the spirit of a lot of the Baha'i Faith that i didn't quite feel all the time before. it's very nice.

with the end of Ayyam-i-ha, comes the end of pust. pust is not slovene for Ayyam-i-ha. infact, pust has nothing to do with ayyam-i-ha. it a festival in which they dress up in masks to scare away winter. similar in many ways to the origins of halloween, when dressing up in masks was designed to scare away the dead... okay, there's little in common save for the dressing up part. it was fun, though. they have several festival days, in which people get dressed up. on saturday, we went out on the town. shiela and goran went as professionals who own their own company, or, in other words, didn't really dress up at all. maruška dressed up as the summer season, with a yellow sun dress, a red, yellow and orange scarf, and white flowers in her hair. jj went as a cat in a hat. not THE cat in THE hat, but just a cat in a hat. i, myself, went as a clown. the star of the night, however, was kiki. she transformed herself into a traffic light. that's right, a traffic light, with working lights and everything. very well done.

the night was full of interesting characters, though i must say that the guy who dressed up as a can of tuna was by and far one of the best.
