One Direction fic rec post for those interested if not move along nothing to see here
The first thing I have to say is that LORD, this fandom is lacking in really good, creative fic. 90% of it is shitty writing (granted, I'm insanely picky + hard to please, but it's still really bad) and/or pwp, which like, pwp isn't BAD, but I can only read so much of that before I'm like UGH, I'M BORED, GIVE ME AN AU WHERE LOUIS IS A LIBRARIAN!!!! I suspect that's a strong personal preference but whatever. I said on Tumblr last night that I finally know the downsides of being involved in bandom back in 2007-2008, because that fandom was AWASH with fantastic fic all the time. Looking back it feels like every week there were multiple new fics that were 10k+, most of them AUs, almost none of them written as WIPs but posted all at once in multiple parts, and now I feel like I'm alone in a arid, barren desert because I was so spoiled. I was SO spoiled.
The first rec on this list, "Hiding Out In The Kitchen," is the only thing I've found that fits all of those specifications - over 10k, well-written, not a WIP, and an AU. It was also the first thing I read in this fandom, so I ruined myself even more, and I tell you this so that you can save it for last, if you want. Otherwise just cry with me about how little X Factor fic there is, how there should be roughly one million high school AUs but I haven't found a single one, and how there is somehow no fic about Harry and Louis going to Leeds fest????????????????????????????? INTERNATIONAL CRIMES.
