sorry for lateness!ambientlightApril 26 2009, 20:48:09 UTC
i was going to write one in which madara is a bunny instead, but.

"Interesting."
The youkai's voice is a low, amused purr, its breath tickling the back of Natsume's neck. He tries to move, but it must have more than just a paw on him now; it feels as though the creature's entire weight is bearing down upon his back.
"So this is Reiko's famed grandson. What a disappointment. And that... collection of yours -- ah--" From the corner of one eye, Natsume can just about see a long, cruel claw turning the pages of the book with exaggerated care. "The rumours were true."
He doesn't have it in himself to be properly angry, he never has had, but there's bitterness in his voice as he says: "I just wanted them to leave me alone."
"Then you should have learnt some sealing techniques. Tsk, tsk. A youkai-hunter, indeed."
"I never went after them--"
"Just think what Reiko would have said."
"Stop talking about my grandmother!"
"Shh." Three sudden points of pressure, just above his shoulderblades; Natsume stops struggling, blinks away the tears of frustration. "I could have eaten you minutes ago, ignorant little human, and taken your silly book of names. I still can. But this could be amusing. You need a keeper, boy, and I am going to be that keeper."

Ah, cool what-if au. I can see Natsume choosing to go that way, if he'd been less of a fluffy nice guy or more frustrated with the harassment. Potentially really dark...

thanks! i-i realised after i started writing that i couldn't quite see natsume going that way after all, but the premise is still interesting, i think. ^_^;;

It'd take some doing, for sure. Possibly if the youkai went after people close to him, or actually manage to do him serious harm, and he figures out how to hit back.

"I don't want--"
"Thank your grandmother for the honour."
