[fic] Ricardian Vice, Ouran High School Host Club

Apr 26, 2007 21:41

now with 50% fewer economics refs! and 25% more punctuation.

this was originally supposed to be followed by something with a semblance of plot, but i gave up. no great loss there, mind.

Title: Ricardian Vice
Fandom: Ouran High School Host Club

'But though I hate to say this, you know, I'm not quite sure that his habit of sizing up each host club patron and graphically predicting how much they are likely to spend in the next month is-- well, a very gentlemanly way of behaving, is it?' )

Have I mentioned how much I love your subject!themed fic? ^_^

Kyouya was far too familiar with the idea of opportunity cost

ah, the obligatory sting in the tail of fluffy!Ouran crack.

briefly laboured under the same delusion as Tamaki, since the first Ric(h)ard that came to mind was Shakespeare's ambiguous portrait of the relationship between second English king of that name and his cousin Henry Bolingbroke aka the future Henry IV (enemy!slash *and* cousincest, at certain key points)- alas for great expectations! XD

you are always too kind. <3

ahaha, while i enjoy econs refs, i must admit that a lot of literary refs go over my head! also, er, i have never read any of the history plays. clearly that must be remedied. *_*

I find Marlowe far more entertaining and explicit, especially Edward II, wonderfully flamboyant and tragic by turns right up the hot-poker-in-a** prison death scene.

Shakespeare's history plays are better watched than read; I recommend Branagh's Henry V, and Fiona Shaw's (Aunt Petunia in the HP films) filmed interpretation of Richard II with not-Ralph-Fiennes!Voldemort of the first movie as Bolingbroke.

Hahaha, I love Tamaki's jump to false conclusions. Also, I really love Tamaki's voice in here (it has that sort of unconscious class, which hasn't quite come through in the other Ouran fics I've read).

thank you! i suspect that it's one of the older fanfic cliches, but ah well. ^_^;; am very glad that tamaki's voice worked for you; i was rather uncertain about that bit, eheh.
